  1. It is sad that a year has passed already, my memories are still with me of such a great man, my message from last year.

Alfonso has spent the last 20 years creating a school that has provided an environment for hundreds of students to change their lives. Kamaruka Inc. supports students with learning difficulties and administered individual learning plans to improve their academic and social skills training to improve confidence.

This man completely changed Angelo’s and in turn my life, When leaving the South Australian System in 2017, Angelo was doing an adjusted curriculum, and this left Angelo over 3 years behind academically, (which is disgraceful, and I had no idea until Alfonso identified this).

Alfonso welcomed Angelo with open arms, and personally supported Angelo in the 18 months at Kamaruka, with only 7 kids in the class, two teachers and if they still didn’t understand they had one on one help from a third teacher, supported homework club, martial arts, fully funded school camps each term that supported life skills, and many other amazing things which enabled Angelo to leave in 2018 completing age-appropriate school work that gave him so much more self-confidence.

I believe Alfonso was one of God’s Angel’s walking amongst us, he helped so many boys live a fulfilled and successful life when other systems gave up on them. I am truly grateful Angelo was one of them ❤
    RIP Alfonso
Love and always in our hearts, Tarnia & Angelo

  2. Thank you for everything Alfonso. You saved and changed my life forever. You were a mentor for me at my time at Kamaruka. I was truly devastated when i heard of the passing, so was my family. You really saved me. I will never forget the moment you called me up to collect my Green Belt after i put a lot of hard work and dedication into achieving it. Everyday you helped me with my martial arts and my daily life. You’ve created such an amazing environment at Kamaruka, it was like a 2nd family to me. I made many great memories that i will cherish forever. My condolences to the family, may you rest in peace.

  3. We remember Alfonso at Kamaruka, being so forthright and such an empathetic and inspiring leader. Watching these beautiful eulogies, we see the family man. He was many things to many people. It’s so sad that he has gone too soon. Alfonso and his visionary staff at Kamaruka helped our son and our family tremendously.

Declan says: Alfonso and marshall arts inspired me to channel my mind into something else, so as to not get angry. I will never forget going on hikes with him for the Kamaruka camps. RIP, Sir.

  4. Dear Alfonso and family,

Words fail me, as I type this through my puddle of tears, I am unable to get the image of his son and my old teacher Daniel, throwing his black belt down… The same one I knew he wore when he was my sensei, my principal, I remember how worn it was even back then, approx. 13 years ago.
I have so many brilliant memories with Alfonso and Kamaruka.
It is heartbreaking to find out he has passed away and it is even more difficult not being able to pay respects in person and see the family and perhaps even to have said a few words, I hope the reunion will still go ahead later this year, even though it will not be the same without Alfonso there, it will be a beautiful tribute to an incredible man and what he has created.
I have a profound respect and love for Alfonso,
    Rest in Peace

  5. Our sincere condolences to the family. It was with shock and sadness that we heard the news of Alfonso’s passing. He was a good person and a great teacher and leader. He took in Liam when there were no other alternatives and changed his life, as he has done with so many other boys through Kamaruka.

So it is with heavy heart that we say thank you for everything and may you rest in peace Alfonso.

    Lea and Liam Quinn-Jones

  6. Thank you for sharing memories of Alfonso with us, and this special service. It has been truly a shock to hear of his passing… an inspiring, energising and principled man. Alfonso made time for those boys faring worst and turned their lives around. My son Patrick still lives by the values instilled in him at the school and these have supported him through a difficult mental health journey. Alfonso was so compassionate to me personally in a stressful time, in ensuring Patrick could access the school after so many difficulties finding a welcoming environment for him. I’m forever grateful for Pat’s experience of community at Kamaruka.

I offer my sincere condolences to Alfonso’s family, and hope that your love and memories provide comfort. Thank you for supporting Alfonso in his endeavours and for your shared contribution to the lives of our boys. My thoughts are with all at Kamaruka, and the broader community.

Patrick would like to share some words:

Mr Scibilia was my Sensei who gave me the remainder of my education considering how my years 7&8 went not so well. My time at Kamaruka was an exceptionally joyous time in my life thanks to this man. Kind of reminds me to remember what my time here on this earth should be be spent. I remember when he round house kicked me once and I broke my ribs but I didn’t want to tell anyone because I considered there were a kind of unspoken code of sparing and just all round I didn’t think it would change anything anyway. I owe this man a lot from his school and what he did very much apart from those bones and all that. At Kamaruka we did martial arts and I got a lot out of this in that specific part of my life. Going to this school is why I formed a lot of the good habits I have still to this day like how during and after these programs I found myself driven to do thousands of pushups and sit-ups. I was basically able to express my will in this period of my life and I think some others might feel a similar way. Kamaruka was a real environment probably more so than I can say for some schools I’ve been to. I guess some things were sensored and some less so but it always felt like there was a middle ground or a code. One time Mr Scibilia picked up a book I had that was about the samurai and I thought that was cool. Japan was somewhat of an influence there and then the rest is normal school stuff I guess so it’s work and play for the most part. You will be missed Mr Scibilia.- Pat

    Warm regards,
Tania Curlis and Patrick Underwood (Kamaruka 2013-15)

  7. I was deeply saddened when I learned of Alphonse’s passing and being away for so long did not make it any easier. I felt the pain of the family’s loss during the eulogies which where watched with tears. My wife Aurora and I pass on our deepest condolences to the whole family. May he RIP.

  8. My deepest condolences to Alfonso’s family. I will always be grateful for the guidance and care he showed to my son Angus during his time at Kamaruka. His leadership and commitment to the boys who attended his school is unmatched in my experience. Without doubt his influence has helped to shape the future of many boys who would otherwise have wandered off the right path. Thank you Alfonso.

  9. We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Alfonso Scibilia. He truly made a huge difference to so many peoples lives, especially my sons life. I saw endless and steely patience made towards my son, over a period of 2.5 years that set him back on track to actually finish year 12 and then go on to University.
Our deepest sympathy go to all his family and friends.

  10. My sincerest condolences to Alfonso’s family. I recall my first telephone conversation with Alfonso some 14 years ago. At a time of despair he listened and understood and gave me hope in helping our son. We enrolled our son at Kamaruka and Alfonso did his utmost and was always available to listen and help. His legacy will live on from all his great achievements. He truly has made a difference in this world.

  11. To Alfonso’s family, our heartfelt condolences and thank you for sharing your beautiful tribute to him today. It’s so sad, he had much still to do and enjoy in life. We are remembering some good times with you Alfonso, often around a table with good food and wine, and a lot of laughter and chats with Rick, Daniel and Rebecca. We witnessed your dream of Kamaruka become reality and it has thrived. Rest In Peace. Rosie and Tom

  14. We still remember Alfonso welcoming us when we visited Australia many years ago. Even if we only met twice, we immediately saw what a good person he was. We will never forget that wonderful lunch he invited us to, somewhere in magic Victoria surrounded by a breathtaking scenery from the top of a hill.

  20. Alfonso was an amazing teacher, principal and mentor. He was the heart and soul of Kamaruka. Words can’t express how much he will be missed. I’m forever grateful I had the chance to know such an incredible man.

  21. We met Alfonso 10 years ago when Liam enrolled in Kamaruka. Liam really valued his time at Kamaruka and I have been honoured to serve the vision of Alfonso as a member of the Committee for all of the last 10 years. We sometimes spoke of what would happen in the event of something like this happening but never imagined it would actually occur. I am still as committed as ever to Alf’s vision and will continue to support Rick, Natalia, Tom and the rest of the community to continue with Alfonso’s vision.
Alfonso’s drive vision and commitment to assisting these boys to grow into fine young men is evidenced with my son.
Thanks Alf. You will be sorely missed.

  22. At Kamaruka we have all been shocked and grieved by Alf’s sudden departure. It is rare to meet someone so passionate and committed to a worthy cause like Kamaruka. My heart is with all Alf’s family. I am praying for you all, and that you will find comfort in knowing that he is most certainly with the Lord Jesus. I truly believe this.

    1. My deepest condolences to the family.

  46. What a beautiful service for Alfonso. Thank you Alfonso for what you have done for the kids and the families by creating this school. You have helped Jason and I with our son, David during his time with your care, love and empathy. It is a great loss and sadness and I still cannot believe that you have left us to be with God. My prayers and thoughts are with the Scibilia’s family. May he rest in peace and may perpetual light shine upon him always.

  47. I only knew Alfonso for a relatively short time, but perhaps that makes his impact on me more noteworthy. Alf was passionate about helping those who others wouldn’t or couldn’t. His death has deeply saddened me; it has also reaffirmed my belief that we can all share the principle of helping others,
and that this is the best way to continue Alf’s legacy. We can pay our respects, day to day with small acts of kindness, we can teach, guide and counsel, we can all just try to be better to each other. Through Kamaruka, Alfonso did just that: giving boys the chance to build their self esteem, their confidence, their character. He made them feel safe, loved, and gave them a place where they belonged. I feel privileged that I have the opportunity to try to carry these qualities forwards as a teacher at Kamaruka. In doing so Alfonso will live on. He will never be forgotten. Thank you, from all of us.

  48. A tour of Alfonso’s garden was always a treat and we greatly treasure the plants that he and Mariola shared with us. An amazing man: I wonder if anyone that met him wasn’t changed in some way by his passion and generosity. May your legacy be everlasting.

  49. Our family was very sad to hear about Alfonso, he was a great principle who made a huge difference to his pupils and their families, including ours. Our son, Ben, thrived in Kamaruka in a way he couldn’t have in any other school. The school camps and martial arts program were fantastic. Alfonso and the whole school community has a special place in our hearts. Our condolences

Margaret, Keith, Ben and Lucy Rhodes.

Niestety covid-19 uniemożliwił przylot naszych Przyjaciół do Polski. A później dotarła do nas ta niespodziewana, najsmutniejsza, nieodwołalna wiadomość.

  84. Alfonso was a true pioneer of the education industry. He created a school that catered to the needs of students that had been lost in the system. Allowing them a chance to experience success, boost their low self-esteem and learn Martial Arts from a master in the field.
He was more than a principal, he poured his heart and soul into Kamaruka and looked after the well being of both staff and students. I have been fortunate enough to work under Alf for nearly 9 years. I look forward to keeping his memory alive by continuing his legacy.
Kamaruka is more than a school to me, it is a family.

  85. It is with deep sadness to hear about the passing of Alfonso, he will be sadly miss by all that knew him. Brileigh has fund memories of him joining in with the Martial arts program he was very encouraging and supportive.
We’re Sending you love and comfort during this difficult time.
