After watching the service online, if you can leave a guest message to let the family know you have joined into the service, that would be greatly appreciated.
Joel, your smiling face is in so many of our school photos, from Prep right through to Year 12. Even though we didn’t hang out at school, I loved joining you and Rick at those Def FX concerts. And that time Rick tried to convince me to attempt surfing, so you picked us both up from our houses one early winter’s morning and drove us all to Philip Island, telling me on the way that you’d lost your licence in the weeks prior for speeding…
I hadn’t seen you since our 20s, so I was delighted to hear “Hey Katy!” as I walked my daughters to their swimming lessons at Knox Leisureworks, to find you soaking in the public spa, grinning at me. You explained you were doing rehab on your leg. When I asked you how you’d hurt yourself, you said “on a surfing trip in Indonesia with Rick”. Of course you did.
It was always great to see your smiling face Joel.
Remembering the Torque Classic bike ride being on the same day as a big swell was due. We stopped on Great Ocean Road to check the waves then continued the ride.
Great times & will miss reminiscing with you
Thank you so much for allowing me to attend the service. It was beautiful, I cried and laughed in equal measure. As it was made clear in everyone’s reflections, Joel had an amazing influence on many lives, and mine is absolutely one of them. He taught me so much about being a decent human being at a time when I really needed it, his ability as a mentor is something that still inspires me. I count him among the village who helped make me the person I am today and I’m honoured to have had that opportunity. Much love and thoughts to everyone who’s grieving.
It was an honour to watch what a beautiful soul my cousin was and to witness how special he was to his close friends and family. I am sorry for not knowing him as a cousin like I should have, and I am truly sorry for the loss for all of you. Thank you for sharing what an amazing adventurous person he was. I will always remember him as a small boy in his red skivvy shirt, making me watch STAR WARS over and over and over, and for the many adventures we would spend climbing through the back fence of his house in Emerald, until we were caught by my mum Sue, and my Auntie Fran. RIP Joel. Your cousin Natalie xx
