After watching the service online, if you can leave a guest message to let the family know you have joined into the service, that would be greatly appreciated.
I met Margaret years ago when I started working at a Community Health Service in Belgrave. I went to visit her after a referral came through for her and realised that we had met previously when my friend Bernadette, who now lives in Yeppoon, bought a bus from Jim and Margaret . They stayed friends and we had lunch together when Bernie visited Melbourne last year. I used to take a small group of ladies out for lunch regularly and it was great having Margaret come along as she was always so interested in other people and their lives. She never said a bad word about anyone and loved her animals and wildlife so much. The birds would be waiting for her in the afternoon when I dropped her home. I did notice that in the last couple of years she had slowed down and she was so grateful to Allan and Helen for doing her shopping etc. The lunch that we planned when we got out of lockdown didn’t happen but she got her wish to live in her home until the end and I am happy about that. I am going to miss you so much Margaret. Thanks for being the special person that you were. R.I.P
Eulogy Order of service for Margaret Raven 15th October 2021
Reading on Behalf of Christine Cooper who is unable to be here today due to Covid restrictions. For the family Bob, John, Ian & Robert
Welcome to all of you. I am Christine Cooper: Margaret’s niece:
I would like the opportunity to speak for a few minutes about my Aunty Margaret, whose life we are celebrating here today.
I realized as I set about this task, that our family sees Margaret in a different context than those of you who are friends. It is difficult to speak on behalf of our family, but I will try to represent the shared feelings of love and admiration we all felt towards Margret.
Margaret was born a twin on the 16th June 1924 in Brighton Victoria to parents Sydney James Jefferies & Christina Jefferies, sadly her twin sister passed on that same day……. 3 years later along came a sister Jueon Christina who was my Mother.
Aunty Margret spoke to me of remembering a great childhood, they were happy children and grew up in Orwald Street Gardenvale, Their father (Sydney James) had his boot makers shop in Gardenvale so they spent a lot of time there after school, the family eventually moved to east Brighton.
Margaret and her sister both had a lifelong love of horses which was passed on to myself and brother Robert.
In her teenage years she had a couple of horses, Nell and Chester, and rode track work for a French trainer De Beau ?……. Bon Ali was one horse she remembered……later discovering he won a cox plate.
Margret in fact loved all animals, and always had dogs, cats and a menagerie of wild life including raising several Joey’s into full grown wallabies it was a passion of Margaret’s to look after the wildlife…….. as we know in her later years, she certainly took this to the extreme buying only the best of fresh food for her many animals.
I remember Aunty Margret talking fondly of how she used to spend time with her dad at a young age during the depression out in the county, hunting rabbits & picking mushrooms which they would then sell or trade with the local butcher & baker.
Margret married her first husband Desmond James Jolly known as Jim on the 28th February 1957.
They lived a very happy Life together but unfortunately were never blessed with children.
I remember may happy times in my younger days with them both on Holidays, they had a blue Toyota mini bus that Uncle Jim decked out as an early version of a motorhome! they travelled to Queensland in that van many a time.
Uncle Jim passed away far too early in life; January 1982 aged 55 year’s
6 years later Margret met and married Peter Raven they lived happily together at Upwey for 20 years before he too passed away from Cancer in November 2008.
Aunty Margret stayed in Grifiths Rd, with her cats, possums, and birds happily till her passing and was very healthy, STRONG willed and independent woman …with the help of neighbours Alan & Helen & her Nephew Russell.
As the years moved on and her health deteriorated, Alan was always there to help, paying her bills, shopping, and doctors…… Margaret often told me that she would have been lost without his help and guidance and felt very close to him.
Aunty Margaret loved her music so please listen to some Elvis Presley or Roy Orbison and think of Margaret.
She will always be in our hearts and thoughts, Rest in Peace.
Poem to be read Please:
I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one.
I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when like is done.
I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways.
Of happy times and laughing times and bright sunny days.
I’d like the tears of those that grieve, to dry before the sun:
