  1. I felt so saddened to learn of Mike’s passing. I worked with Mike on a few projects (as his client) and chatted with him from time to time for many years after the work was done. He was an excellent geophysicist, but more importantly, and even better person.

My condolences to his friends and family.

  2. I was very sad to recently hear of the loss of our dear colleague Mike. He was the kind, calm, consummate professional. He was perhaps the first of his kind to successfully make a business from working at home. I can understand now, in this new era of working from home, that when I first saw his racks of computers ten years ago that he had installed in his home office in Kensington, that he was a pioneer who had already worked out how to spend more time with his family. He got the job done professionally and he always finished the meetings with a friendly coffee down the Kensington Station café. My heartfelt condolences to his family.

  3. Dearest Mikey, So sorry that Susan and I were not been able to attend your service in person. We have watched the video and it was beautiful and touching. We feel like we were there to also bid you farewell. We will wrap ourselves around Simone and Will as so many others will too so rest peacefully now my main man. All our love, Rob and Susan – x.

  4. Really friendly guy who was always willing to teach and show, patient and talented. I am saddened for your family’s loss and rest in piece Mike. Let me return the Melbourne lunch treat in the afterlife.

  5. Mike was such a kind and beautiful man, a true gentleman in every sense of the word. Sending all our love to Simone and Will

  6. To Simone and Will, Robyn and Sandi…
So very sad for your loss. A beautiful service with lovely photos, reflections and memoirs… Mike, your youthful good looks, your gentle and kind nature, your adventurous and inquisitive spirit, as advocated by all who knew you, shall endure for eternity…

    Sincerely, Gary

  7. All our love goes out to you, Simone and Will. We’re truly sorry for the loss of your beloved husband and loving Dad. It was Jonathon who was lucky enough to know Michael. He would come home from a night with you all and tell us tales of Michael’s kindness and interesting conversation. It tells you something about how special Michael was when a teenager who doesn’t say much wants to talk about his friends Dad.
I wish I had known him better, I hope I will be half as good and kind as Michael was.
    Fiona, Raymond, Jonathon and Sean

  8. Dear Simone and Will, we send you all of our love and thoughts. We are truly sorry for the loss of your beloved Husband and Loving Dad. It was our Jonathon who had the biggest luck and pleasure to meet Will’s Dad. He would come home happy with tales of how kind and interesting Mike had been ( as well as you Simone ) – and my pasta will never compare after he tasted Mike’s. You realise what a wonderful man he was when a grumpy teenage boy comes home and talks about his mate’s dad. I wish I had known him more, I know that I will try to be half as lovely as Mike.
All our Love, Fiona, Raymond, Jonathon and Sean.

  9. Robin, Simone and Will, Michael must have been an exceptional man who we sadly never met. God’s Blessings to you on you loss. George & Val.

  26. Thank you to those who helped make this service available to us who are so far away. I felt included and really appreciate being there in spirit, if not bodily. It’s obvious that we were all so fortunate to be in the presence of a very special man with remarkable qualities. We need many more men like Michael Hartley. Thanks for the sensitive, and at times, humorous tributes to Mike. I too share some wonderful memories of Mike and was so glad that we reacquainted ourselves when he came over to our farm in north west Tasmania with Sandi and Rob recently. I know he wanted to come back again, and would have if this cruel disease hadn’t taken him so soon. He will be here in spirit as we shall always hold him near. Love to Simone, Will and the rest of the family. You’re both most welcome down anytime. Susan Hartley and Frank van Kann.

  32. Beautiful service Simone, Will and family. Such great reminiscences of Mike’s life – who would have thought, a motor head and a music enthusiast! Loved hearing the stories of Mike’s early life and the fact that yours and Mike’s life were entwined from such an early age.
