My memories of the Beckett family go back decades. Over the years, in Australia and overseas I have told the story of what an amazing couple were Ralph and Vera.

In fact, I reckon with my Father I visited Ralph’s Dad in his old age. I was in my teens and Mr Beckett senior was not a good sleeper. He told me that in the long night hours, from his memorization of the Psalms he would comfort himself by reciting lots of them.

When Eileen and I were living at Valkstone, we were member of Centre Road Meths. I was of the age where giants of the faith would take me off on Missions and mentor me. Trips with Ralph were most memorable. My memory of Alison is of a vibrant attractive personality. while David with scholarly musical gifts.

I remember talking to Vera after Ralph’s Funeral. She was a great help when Ralph was battling to pass his subjects for ordination. He loved his wife greatly, and gave her much credit for encouraging him The Rule family were blessed with a similar wonderful Mother .

Circumstances meant could I not get to the service , so I was glad for the streaming of the fine service today . Blessings on you all and your memories.

  3. A lovely service for a lovely lady. What a life Vera had full of love and beautiful memories. We are sorry we could not attend the service but after a busy day we were able to peacefully watch it back reflecting on our memory of Vera and what she meant to so many people. Attending her 100th birthday meant so much to us and was an event we will never forget. Our thoughts are with all the family at this time and we know that memories of Vera will give you strength and comfort at this time.
