Alan Bartram passed away peacefully in the early hours of the morning on Tuesday the 7th of September 2021. In the 2 weeks prior, Wife Teresa and Daughter Kristen were by his side for his final journey at the Olivia Newton John Wellness Centre Palliative Care Ward at the Austin Hospital.
Alan’s beautifully aware mind was hindered by his failing body. His diagnosis of Multiple Myeloma 20 years earlier predated his more recent diagnosis of AL Amyloidosis.
Alan loved life. He loved his family and friends and he adored his grandchildren Tia and Callan. His home in Bend of Islands was a source of joy and he loved playing with the children and being with friends on his big beautiful deck. He will be well remembered for his sensitivity and diplomacy in situations where arbitration was needed and he will be missed for his ability to provide both humour and clarity to our lives.
In his last few days, a calm settled upon Alan for the first time in years.
At 3:45 the morning of the 7th of September I had taken over from mum on our constant vigil to be in his presence. I was holding Dad’s hand and singing “And you know, we’re on each other’s team”. My head was on his lap and I drifted off to sleep for a moment. When I woke he had peacefully departed. We were all together. His girls by his side in the quiet calm of the night.
Alan wanted to have life with us all. He wanted to live his ideals in the bush and he wanted to love his family and friends more. So join us in remembering and celebrating Alan. He would want us to be together and so we will. He would want us to laugh, share stories, pictures and enjoy the memories we have so email them to me at krisbartmram@gmail.com
