  1. Dear Christine, Marion and Heike,
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to be part of such a beautiful memorial through the livestream.
It is sad for us that we never had the chance to see German again after 2019, when he left for what was meant to be his annual escape from our German winter. Because of COVID and later health restrictions, he could not return.
We will always be grateful to him for enabling me to spend four months working in Australia, followed by two months of travelling there with my future wife Evelyn – an experience we will never forget. We are also thankful for Barry Roberts’ and wife’s hospitality when we were both invited to their house for dinner and it was touching to see him delivering his speech today.
Later, German and Christine witnessed and shared in the upbringing of our two children, Felix and Julia, and Christine even became godmother to Julia. We were invited to their birthday barbecues every year, which became a lovely tradition for us.
These bonds will always remain a precious part of our family story.
We will always cherish German in our memory,
    Michael, Evelyn, Julia and Felix

  2. You will be deeply missed German.
    Such a warm hearted gentleman.
Your walks around the block and lively nature.
Sending my love to mamma and Marion to go through this hard time.
I remember your first day of admission in Capel until your last day. It was a pleasure to look after you in your last days.
You made mamma and Marion to visit German and waited for them before you left.
    You will always be missed.

    Kindly Regards
    Kiran from Capel sands

  3. At 05:15 this morning I looked past the assembled friends and family of German to the vast expanse of the sea beyond the windows. German had a good life as he traversed the sea in all directions, leaving traces of himself wherever he wandered. We met German and Christine in Rangoon, Burma, where we started our families, propping up their little Marion and and we propping up our little Celina to “play” together. We had a few reunions, one with German in southern France, and more in Germany. Our little girls, now age 60, have never met, but we think they would enjoy each other. Christine and I converse by mail, to which she attaches her beautiful photos of the beaches and sea which German loved to explore.

  4. Marie and I watched the memorial service from the south of France and it brought back many fond memories for me of the Christmas I spent with the family in Erlangen many years ago and the fabulous tour they took me on, the highlight for me being the Christkindlsmarkt in Nuremberg and Bamburg not far behind. Thank you so much for making me most welcome on that and other trips to Germany and to your house in Sorrento, your hospitality has always been amazing. Best wishes to Christine, Marion and Heike in this difficulties time. Love, Martin and Marie.

  6. I have such wonderful memories of German throughout many years. My favourite time was visiting German & Christine in Erlangen with my mum in 1988. Not only were we lucky enough to have our own personal tour guide with so much knowledge, but I remember German so patiently taking the time with me as a relatively sheltered 16 yr old Australian to really explain the local history and also so much about European history, I have never forgotten this. I also have a very funny memory one evening of Germen very cheekily calling me into the kitchen and introducing me to Nutella on toast. Nutella was not available in Australia yet, so I was besotted by this treat and always think of him whenever Nutella is near. Sending you all so much love at this sad time, Alison McPherson xx

  7. Dear Christine, Marion and Heike,
Thank you very much for allowing us to be part of German’s farewell. Due to my current cancer treatment, we could not attend in person. But He will be with us in Spirit always.
With lots of love from Irma and Chris Thalmann

  8. Dear Christine, Marion and Heike,
thank you for letting me attend the service for German from afar.
He did play a big role in my life, as I would not be living in Australia now, without his influence.
The memorial service was moving and so verry befitting for him and his life.

    My best wishes
    Petra
