  1. A beautiful service for everyone. A great brain, good friend, husband to Elly and father, gone too soon. We are very sad. Ian and Cathy Crockett.

  2. Thank you for the invitation to take part in Alan’s funeral which was beautiful and moving, and revealed in a heartfelt way the wonderful person that he was. I remember thinking how absolutely chuffed Alan looked at Michael and Casey’s wedding celebrations in the same space not so long ago. Well, I think that he would have been equally chuffed as a witness to his own funeral which demonstrated so clearly the love and high regard felt for him by his family and friends. With love, Gaik xx

  3. Thank you for sharing, Rest In Peace Alan. His farewell was such a beautiful service. We will deeply miss him. Our thoughts are with Elly and family. Lot of love ❤️ from Yvonne Adam and family

  4. Sending love from Tasmania to all of you…Daniel and Michael’s tributes were beautiful. Alan was such a fine, funny and understated person, lucky all of us who’s paths crossed his.

  5. Maggie and I took part in your wonderful entire service from here in Prague.
It was a joyous privilege to be in Alan’s presence, his back garden and home with you all, in such appropriate glorious weather with you all.
All the he words spoken so wonderfully, and respectfully, summed up Alan’s most wonderful special personality.
We’ll always remember him, for his always calm and measured unique presence, never losing his “cool”. He was so generous of himself.
What we cherished, in those oh, so many private times with him, was his cheeky humour, which we loved to share, we both have that same sense of the ridiculous in ourselves.
And as for icecream and a drink … well … when sitting n the TV room, and the subject of those indulgences came up, as they always did, he would prodingly seek confirmation, with his wry smile, and then … it was on!!!

Alan, we will so very very much miss you and your presence and seeing you in the morning sitting at the dining table with your breakfast and newspaper and saying “Good Morning Alan”.

Alan, Captain Reid, flight checks are done, doors are locked, and you have been given clearance to fly high above the clouds again, soaring into the starlight, looping around the sun, with a glass of wine and ice cream, with your wee cheeky chuckle… you did it your way!!!

We love you, hugely hugely miss you, and will always be here for Elly and Maggie 4-paws.
    Goodbye, special man. xxxxxx

  6. Beautiful service and dedication. The boys spoke (and played) so well. Your Dad was so very proud of you all – he literally beamed when he spoke of you and your achievements. Monty Python comments very apt. As a young First Officer with Ansett, Alan gave me a copy of Douglas Adams’ Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy, telling me it was “mandatory reading”. Of course thereafter, during our many flights together, countless references were made to “Marvin” the robot, accompanied by gales of laughter – often during very inappropriate phases of flight. “Brain the size of a planet and they ask me to pick up a piece of paper”. Puccini’s Nessun Dorma by Pavarotti, was the perfect requiem. Alan brought intelligence, wit and humour to any conversation, and was always a joy to be around. My thoughts are with Elly, the children, and the whole the family, at this very sad time.

  7. Beautiful service – I’m sure its exactly the way he would have wanted it.

    Much love from us all.
