So sorry we could not attend in person. Uncle Alan will always have a special place in my heart and memory and I have many fond recollections of the visits from the Melbourne crew over Christmas. The wit and sparkle brought by Alan during those times makes the memories even more special. I will miss him.
All our love to you and the rest of the family.
Rob and Nina
Dearest Aunty Dot and family, it was our privilege to share with you such a warm and beautiful farewell to Alan. His laughter, cheeky sense of humour, generosity and love of family will always be in our memories of him.
Sending you much love and huge hugs
James and Giselle xx
Such a top bloke and I’m proud to have just a fraction of his DNA in me and my family. Uncle Al was a true inspiration and a one of the elders we could all look up to and wanted to be around. Aunty Dot and the kids can all hold their heads high.
Missing all the Melbourne mob and will hopefully see you all sooner rather than later.
Love, Cousin Dave and his new family Jo, Tom and James in the UK.
What a beautiful tribute to a true Gentleman.I’m the lucky one to have known and grown up with The Shorts. So many fond memories of you all.I’m sure Maz & Gordie will be having a drink with you .
Alan you really were 93 years young
Aunty Dot,Anne,Donny,Joy,Trudy, lil Al and family, was a beautiful ceremony, thinking of you all at this time, hopefully we will get together in the not to distant future.
Love and hugs,
San,Bob,Gel,Michael and family.
You were always kind, caring and humble and making the biggest differences in the most subtle ways.
Every time I came over with Trudes, you and Dotty always stopped what you were doing to have a cuppa and a chat. I loved that so much.
I have thoroughly enjoyed looking at all the photos of your life … what a great life you’ve had. What a great man you were. What a beautiful family you have.
It seems to me that you have been a very loved human here on earth. It still feels like you are here. No doubt you are…. ha ha driving around in your gorgeous blue Kingswood!!! I can hear you laughing.
Dot and family, thinking if you today. It was a beautiful ceremony and Alan will be remembered well, with many stories to share at future family gatherings. His company won the hearts of those who knew him best, and he knew the love of family as Don said today, ‘we were like mates’. My love and thoughts are with you today, Kate
And that, dear family, is how you send a legend to Heaven. The most beautiful service…. and Uncle Al was showing off right to the end… with the water fountains and the big white bird….God bless Short Family…. he was one of a kind and we were blessed…
Love Lyndel, Todd, Harry and Archie
Dot and all the family, what a wonderful tribute and celebration of a very special man. Your beautiful, heartfelt, emotional words caused many tears to be shed in our house. We will always remember Al’s energy, his humour, his generosity of spirit, his super-quick wit, his kindness. His love of life was a joy to be around. We are deeply sorry for your loss. Hold each other tight.
A beautiful ceremony for a wonderful family man and adventurer, we will always remember his beautiful smile and his cheeky personality, he will be so proud of each of you, Al and Dot created a wonderful clan, it has always been a pleasure to share lovely fun moments with all the family, one like no other for sure and you are all his greatest legacy, love you all!!
Such a gorgeous tribute to an absolute legend. We will all miss Uncle Al terribly, but what a full and rather naughty life he led. To the cheekiest person I have known, fly high. Much love and long virtual hugs to those left behind – looking forward to when we can hug it out together. Jen, Gaz & Sophia xoxox
What a beautiful service to celebrate the life of Uncle Al. I will always fondly remember his vitality for life. He lit up a room or a celebration with his wit, humour and eagerness to debate. We all greatly appreciated the effort he and Aunty Dot always made to come to Grafton for family events and also just to visit. There was never a dull moment when they were around.
He was suave and stylish – driving his fancy cars and still rocking his ray bans as a 90+ year old!
I will also always be grateful for how they welcomed Ringo and I, and made us feel connected during our short stint living in Melbourne.
Sending you all our love also on behalf of Grandma (Rita) and mum (Ann-Maree) during this time.
Such a beautiful service in memory of a beautiful man whose life enriched so many. Rest in peace dear Alan. Stu and I send our love and thoughts to you all. ❤️
We love you all, such a very fitting beautiful service for our Uncle Allan. bought laughter and tears.
Our heart breaks for you Auntie Dot. We have our own little wake happening on the Clarence.
Cant wait till we can all finally get together and what a gathering it will be!!!
To dearest Aunty Dot and all the Melbourne clan – sending you all our love and hugs. Uncle Al was a lovely, lovely man who will be missed dearly. I will cherish memories with him, even (or especially) those of him heckling me at weddings or debating politics. We have lost two titans of our family this year, but we are grateful for lives well lived and what they have shown and taught us. Wish we could be with you there today, but we are definitely there in spirit. Love you all. Cousin Matt and Gav
We will always remember Alan’s cheeky smile and great sense of humour displayed so well in your wonderful tribute, testament to a life well lived
Sending our love and support to Dot and the whole family
