Dear Andrea,
I have thought about you from time to time over the years. You were such a bright light during my teacher education at La Trobe – your intelligence, sharpness and care were such a strong influence on the kind of teacher I wanted to become. You ended up being a reference for my Master’s application in the UK, and I wanted for so long to tell you I got accepted onto a PhD programme, and now it’s too late. I wasn’t even sure if you’d remember me, but it doesn’t matter because I will always remember you. Thank you so much for the education you gave your students, and most of all for you.
Love, A former student.
To the entire family of late Andrea, it is really painful missing a beloved one, wife and mother, however do take solace in the comforting words of friends and that of the scripture too. On the resurrection morning, we shall behold her again. Fare the well Andrea.
Wow, what a special lady and what an amazing impact Andrea has had. I feel really privileged to have been able to attend this service online today, and I’m wishing that I had spent more time with her.
To Jacqueline, to Phil, David and Rebecca and families – sending condolences and wishing that all of the amazing memories of Andrea give you comfort.
Love to you all.

Dear Phil, David & Rebecca
Such a beautiful celebration of Andrea’s life from her loving family, friends and colleagues. Andrea would be so proud to hear the esteem in which she was held and the enormous love that her life was able to give to so many. I will miss that beautiful smile and caring friendship we shared on too few occasions.
From Debbie and I our love and thoughts go to you at this difficult time.
Dear Phil and Andrea’s family,
What comes through during the funeral is the great love you all have for Andrea and how her love for you has transformed your lives. I’m so glad for you that you had the opportunity to enjoy her generosity and her skill in making the lives of people she met much happier and fulfilling. Thank you Phil for your sensitive eulogy. It captured so much of what Andrea gave to you and how much you were a great combination. What a wonderful way to end a funeral! Andrea would have loved you all for doing it this way.
Dear Phil, and all of Andrea’s immediate and extended family and friends….
Thank you for making it possible to be with you for the beautiful celebration of her life shared there in Australia on Tuesday morning (Monday night, here in Canada) through Live Streaming. As one of her colleagues in ISATT, I’m so very grateful to have been able to wish her a heartfelt “Travel Well” with all of you. Thoughts and prayers are now with Andrea, and with all of you. Take good care of each other.
Sincerely, Susan.
We both agree that we have just attended, from a location halfway round the world, the most beautiful funeral we have ever attended. Our congratulations to Phil and Andrea’s family for an experience that was exactly what Andrea would have wanted. It was an honour to find ourselves in not one but two of the wonderful photos shown at the end. What very special memories we have of those few occasions when it was our privilege to spend time with Andrea and Phil and how lucky we were to see them not only at conferences but also at their homes in Somers and Camberwell but also in our home in Kingston in Canada. We are very grateful to you all to have been able to share from afar these 90 unforgettable minutes to celebrate Andrea’s life.
I recall meeting Andrea in Edinburgh and sharing a taxi in the rain with her and Phil after an evening sharing food, wine and laughter. This was followed by time at Somers again sharing food, laughter and and of course some wine. Education and the state of universities were debated and analysed. Your insight and wisdom in approaching your work shone through. And of course there was a visit to Vlad’s antique emporium, walking on the beach and enjoying the Somers’ community vibe.
A beautiful service for a beautiful human.
My thoughts are with Phil and the family, and with Andrea as she sets off on her next adventure.
With love,
Kate
It has been a joy to share in this beautiful celebration of Andrea’s life. The stories, tributes and pictures showed her wonderful capacity to bring learning, connection and happiness to everyone around her -students, colleagues, friends and family. Sending love to Phil and family at this very sad time.
Andrea, I think Phil, your family, friends and colleagues have celebrated your life in the most beautiful way, befitting the warm, caring wonderful person I think everyone knew you to be. I always enjoyed chatting to you at the Summer Schools. And the Christmas lunch down in Somers remains the best lunch ever. You will be sorely missed. Melissa
Andrea’s support during mentoring workshops when I first joined Deakin in 2014 was really generous. She is remembered as an open hearted, tremendously giving colleague, who reminded us that we work across disciplines and have shared values and goals. My deep condolences to Andrea’s family. I thank you for also thinking of us in this difficult time, and ensuring we could attend the funeral virtually.
Thank you for allowing those of us overseas, who love Andrea, to participate in this celebration of her life. It was just the perfect way to send her off. I only regret that I was never able to visit Summers in person, though I dropped in via Skype on occasion. All my love and prayers to Phil, David and Rebecca.
Dear Phil, David, Rebecca and all of Andrea’s family and friends. Such a beautiful, rich and meaningful ceremony for a beautiful and wonderful woman. Palya dear Andrea, Susan
Dear Andrea, Our paths criss-crossed at different gatherings during the La Trobe and Deakin years. It was always lovely to see you and I have fond memories of our chats over the many years and your lovely smile and enthusiasm for life, the arts and education. What a beautiful service your friends and family have provided – you have left a rich legacy from a wonderful life well lived.
Lots of love Shelley
Thank for inspiring so many lives Andrea. I will miss your intellect, generosity, and kindness. You were a wonderful colleague!
My deepest condolences to Phil and the family.

A wonderful send off for a wonderful woman. So sorry I couldn’t be there in person. I have a champagne in hand. If I was sharing a story it would be our fun drunken night at the women in leadership retreat where we shared our very similar histories and have a special bond ever since. Lots of love and strength to you all. She would be so proud.
Warmest thoughts

I will never forget your smile, your interest in doing everything you could to help both students and supervisors, your common sense, your emotional intelligence but also your pragmatic very practical approach to solving problems.
