What a man ! What great vision and courage he applied to his tasks . What a difference he has made to our democratic environment . We are all beneficiaries .
His larger than life personality and rich voice are great mementos .
Bravo and Thanks Tony ,
It was an honour to know the Honourable. My regret is that I did not know him for a long enough time.
May this distinguished and enlightened soul also find bountiful favours in the worlds of God beyond this mortal life where he will dwell and be blessed for eternity.
A fine farewell to Tony that covered all facets of his life and it was lovely to see the strong family love coming through.
I wish to pass on my condolences on behalf of my grandfather – Alan Daniel James Connell and my mother Helen Connell who should now be meeting up with Tony Staley.
My grandfather said he was raised by 2 Staley sisters and one memory was how they taught him to darn. Perhaps their connection to Holeproof. My grandfather used to carry the gold from Staley and Connell, General Store in Swan Hill. When I say carry – he carried the gold on horseback being a renowned rider and could be relied upon the out gallop the Kelly Gang.
I met up with Tony and Maggie Staley some years ago with my mother.
God Bless all ….
So glad to be able to ‘attend’ in Berlin to celebrate Ant and his full and courageous life.
I was deeply touched by his open heartedness. It seems he really knew how to live. Sending love to the family. Thank you for your beautiful tributes.

What a wonderful tribute. Tony would be so proud of you all.
With love and a sense of privilege to have known him.
The CRC Programme had a great champion in you and you’ll be greatly missed.
Such a lovely service.
Rest in Peace, Tony.
A great man whom I will never forget.

I remember with gratitude Tony Staley’s great contribution as Federal President of the Liberal Party. It was an honour to fetch him his crutches. He had a light touch but great strength. He was courageous in fighting back from his injuries and once said “A three year old doesn’t think it odd that you’re lying flat in hospital”. A memory that came back hearing Lucinda’s tribute. What great comfort and love he gave and received from his family.
I am attending today’s service online to represent auDA and auDA’s Chair Alan Cameron AO in honouring Tony’s contribution to the development of the Internet in Australia.
In addition to his many contributions to public life, Tony was Chair of auDA from 2000 to 2015. All at auDA were very saddened to hear of Tony’s passing.
In 2000, working with a volunteer Board and small, dedicated team of staff, Tony led negotiations with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers and the Australian domain name industry supporting the successful delegation of .au to auDA.
Tony contributed significantly to auDA and Australia’s internet community – establishing the .au registry / registrar business model and the auDA Foundation, the first tender for the .au registry and commencing community consultation on .au direct.
Tony was a strong supporter of auDA’s role as a leader in the ccTLD community.
Tony is remembered by auDA as a tireless advocate for the .au and a great Chair, who was instrumental in both raising awareness of .au and driving innovation in the .au domain.
auDA thanks Tony for his contributions and, together with the .au community, mourns his passing.
Our thoughts are with his family at this time.
