  1. Thanks to David’s family for making this available. I was so sorry to be unable to attend the celebration of David’s life at short notice but it captured the man to a tee. Like so many others, he was a great encourager for young journalists like me who weren’t at all sure they belonged. And he was a generous, thoroughly decent man. Sincere sympathy to all David’s family and thanks for the privilege of knowing him and learning so much from him.

  2. Thanks so much for making this video tribute available, and my condolences to the family for your loss. I wasn’t able to make it but saw Bob Parsonage a few days beforehand and it was good to see him mentioned too, as Bob and Dave taught me so much on the sports subs desk when I was in sport from 1983 to 1985. I still remember a night when I was pulling together the VFL training notes and Patrick Smith sauntered over and asked if I really wanted to describe Essendon’s Shane Heard as a “utility cum stopper”…..

  3. What a wonderful service for a wonderful man. You will be missed “Mr Dick”.
Great photos Pen! Thank you for the opportunity to see the service.
My very best wishes to the whole family.

  4. Thank you so much for making it possible for me to “attend” David’s funeral from Switzerland. It was a perfect tribute to a lovely man and captured his essence really well. I remember that old bag he carried so well. I am glad someone mentioned it. It’s a very small detail but suddenly it made me “see” him. My very best wishes, Alice Ghent

  5. I greatly appreciated hearing David’s tribute, which brought back to me recollections of what a generous, funny and kind colleague he was in the few years I worked with him at The Age.

Thanks and my thoughts are with you all.
