Thank you to those who shared their special memories of Denis. A true gentleman who was open to the people around him and courageous in approaching his personal challenges. We are thankful for the special times we shared with Denis and the banter when his PT session was straight after ours.
It was a privilege to be able to watch this beautiful service through live stream as we were unable to attend in-person. I was deeply moved by the celebration of Dennis’ life. What an amazing person, so smart, kind and always with an infectious smile on his face.
Our family got to know Dennis through the karate club in Emerald, often sat next to him, chatting while our young daughter was training. He was showing us photos from his recent trip to Japan, so proud that he was able to travel there to connect with the greater martial arts community. Dennis would casually give our daughter tips how to improve her focus or the angle of her kicks, ever so gently he would point out how she could improve. She, too, is grieving by the loss of a person she got to know as always caring and thoughtful, the energy in the club won’t be the same without Dennis.
Dennis will be missed by so many, our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by the loss.
Denis an intrepid traveller through life an adventurer and above all a welcoming friend to those who came into his sphere .
To Denis’s loved ones I would like to extend my sincere condolonces to this wonderful person whom I was privileged to make his acquaintence through being in his employ as his gardener at his beautiful garden and residence in Monbulk , Victoria, Australia .
May I introduce myself as Paul , Denis’s gardener . Many of the thoughts , feelings and kind words spoken today for Denis at his memorial service resonate with me and although he has been taken from us I will always have these cherised memories of him . I feel immensely saddened of his passing but he has left an enduring legacy . I remember on arrival for the gardener’s work appoinment at Denis’s the engaging conversation we had and the way he made one feel at ease in his company .
He would generally finish our chats on a light note and at times with the proviso of ” onwards and upwards ” and hence I would get on with it as his garden employee.
I wish you my heartfelt thoughts and prayers at this difficult time in losing your loved one , Denis Austin .
With Kind Regards,
Paul ( Gardener )
I have been able to follow the ceremony on the Live Streaming and was greatly moved to see how Denis’s friends and those who loved him took part in remembering different facets of his life – and his remarkable achievements. I was happy to be reminded of our earlier days and, particularly, the progression to plenitude of life, amongst such wonderful, true friends, a real treasure. I wish to give them, especially his family in Australia, my heartfelt gratitude for looking after Den and their very special care at all times.
Even though you are with me, I miss you so much.
What a lovely service to celebrate a wonderful man and a life well lived. God speed Denis.
Glenn Tasker – (Part of the extended karate Family Denis had). It was a privilege to have known him. My family enjoyed spending time with him, traveling through Japan. He had so many stories and experiences to share.
What a wonderful man. I had the pleasure of meeting him recently when I dubiously thought I would have a go at karate (at the age of 65). He was warm and encouraging and is still an inspiration to me.
Beautiful service and beautiful words Matt. Love to you and your family. I will always remember Denis as a true gentleman ❤️
