  1. Dear Rosie, Valentina and Joe,

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Maria. I have such wonderful memories of your beautiful mother from when I was a carer with Manningham Council. She had a truly wicked sense of humour and I looked forward to her “naughty” cake! We had many a good laugh.

The following is an excerpt of a poem from a novel by Nicholas Evans:

“When you walk the woods where once we walked together
And scan in vain the dappled bank beside you for my shadow,
Or pause where we always did upon the hill to gaze across the land,
And spotting something, reach by habit for my hand,
And finding none, feel sorrow start to steal upon you,
    Be still.
    Close your eyes.
    Breathe.
Listen for my footfall in your heart.
I am not gone but merely walk within you.”

Thank you for the opportunity of sharing in Maria’s funeral service. My love and sincere condolences to all of you and your families.

  17. MEMORIES OF MY MOTHER
    (dedicated to all mothers)

at the Awakening of the morning
I am thanking you, my mother

So that as a little girl
I would dearly wish to return

and running about the kitchen and
in order to be of some help

when you were happy and contented
my hair you loved to caress

Which were curly and very beautiful
And a sweet smile you gave me

    these memories of times
    now gone and past

But the love of ones mother
    has stayed with me forever

next to you I loved to sit
    each morning praying with you

squeezing me, you rocked me gently
    The ninna-nanna you sang
    So sweetly my mother

    and now my dearest mother
you are here in my heart

    where I remember you always
    with much affection and love
