Dear Denise, Debbie and Family.
We are deeply saddened with Julian’s passing. He has played such an incredible part of our visits to Melbourne. Julian and Babs were Emma and Carl’s true family when my mum moved to Melbourne without them close by and taking them to all the parties and dances she would never have felt so happy. Thank you to Julian who was a witness at their marriage and represented us at Emma’s funeral with his Eulogy when we were not able to travel. Julian you have been everything I could have wished for in an uncle (although you are a cousin in reality), you were so generous to us with your time and attention. You will be missed by all of us and by so many people worldwide. Crystal Palace won the FA cup. Hope you saw that incredible feat. With sadness in our hearts we say goodbye, we have lots of memories, with never ending love from Penny, Paul and ‘Princess’ Grace (which is what you always called her).
Dear Debbie Denise & Bryan and Jessica Aiden & Aaron my deepest condolences to all of u and other members of the family. I pray to God to give all of u strength in this sadness and great loss. Uncle Julian was like my own uncle wat he did for me my own uncle never he was my uncle and father figure to me . Miss u uncle always and ur memories will remain forever in my heart rest in peace uncle love always sabrina
RIP Uncle Julian,
Always an inspiration and mentor to me over the years. Will be sadly missed but never forgotten.
I was so thankful to be a part of Julian’s celebrations all the way from Perth. Our condolences to both his daughters, grandchildren, Auntie Daphne and families. Julian lived in Golmohur Barracks in Howrah and was a good friend of the Pope brothers, who also played in the Redsocks. I will never forget Julian who got someone to maintain my dad’s grave in Lower Circular Road, Calcutta. Rest in eternal peace dear Julian. You will be missed by many.
Our deepest and heartfelt sympathies and condolences to Julian’s family. We pray the dear Lord will give each one of you the strength to bear his loss. I met Julian in Calcutta through Gordon Cropp. I am proud and happy to say that I was one of the many recipients of his cup-a-soup parcels. Once, he wrote a note to the postman in Calcutta who would deliver these parcels saying : please do not steal these soups, if you do, God will punish you’. You will be sadly missed by many. Thank you for your generosity and kindness which I shall forever cherish. Rest in eternal peace kind and thoughtful gentleman. Denis & Gloria Vanderhyde
The passing of uncle Julian really shocked me, he was so active & had such good health into his late years that it seemed he was invincible . We have so many fond memories of him visiting England and waking us up early to walk to the park and eat donuts on the way , we wouldn’t want to walk because it was a long walk but he’d bribe us with the donughts . His warm nature naturally put us at ease as children , he was always with a smile but you also knew not to mis behave.
If dad were here , I don’t think he would have been able to take the loss of his best friend , now they are together again. It really does feel like the end of an era.
Sorry for your loss . Michelle xx
IN MEMORY OF A DEAR FELLOW ANGLO-INDIAN – A MENTOR & OUR FRIEND
In the passing away of our dear Julian Maugey we have lost a dear friend and not just us in CAISS who knew him personally but the entire CAISS extended family who received his special attention and care. Kolkata will be poorer in having one less generous person but benefit greatly in having one more wonderful soul on the other side of the the horizon (where he probably has already organised a hockey match with the veteran saints who have hockey sticks to spare) It was not in great deeds but in a million small ways that he showed what greatness was all about. We at CAISS were indeed blessed To have him as a life member and to know him so close and knew that he had a heart of gold ever willing and ever compassionate willing to go the extra mile with anyone who needed a hand to hold and a friend to talk to. Age was never a hurdle and he traversed generations with ease comfortable on the hockey field as was in a board room. His instinct to teach and show the way how things had to be done was his strength, getting people around him to see what he saw beyond the picture itself was a qualification he earned not in an academic classroom but from the depths of his soul and the strength the shared was the very strength he gained from the many friends he has the world over. Many friends here in Calcutta and the many memories he had of this city of joy would always bring a tear of joy to him when he relived his younger self reminiscing the many landmarks which he remembered so fondly. An Anglo-Indian who never spared an opportunity to say he was proud to be an Anglo-Indian and did an extra bit for his community leading by example hopping others would follow in his footsteps and this we know was contagious as many who are here at this service today will agree that he was the one who who always started the ball rolling ever willing to get his hands dirty and to do whatever was possible. Calcutta will miss him CAISS will miss him but will trust in Heaven to meet him again.
Our heartfelt condolences to the family and we assure each one of you of our prayers at this time.

Thinking of you all as you farewell Julian. We are sorry we can’t be there in person as we are overseas. Rest in peace Julian. From the Donovan family xc
We go back to the early Seventies Julian when you were in charge of running Dances and Shows for the Calcutta Rangers Football Club in London. We were privileged and Honoured being your Resident Band for all your shows. It was always a sell out and we think you were the best Organiser of these shows and a Classic Master of Ceremonies .
You have always been kind, generous and gave many other Bands a chance to make a name for them selves when they played for you. We’ve enjoyed, Spanish nights, May Queen Contests, Cabaret nights and many more entertaining nights.
It was a sad day when you left the UK for Australia where you excelled yourself as a HOCKEY COACH and took your men and Girls Teams to the highest.
You have played and shared your love and experience all round and will always be Remembered
Rest in Peace our dear friend and may Perpetual light shine on you always
God bless
Johnny and Faye
