  1. I first met Karen when she and my Dad struck up a friendship for their love of the outdoors, fishing and the garden.
Karen worked hard to build a new life with our Dad and make connections with the family.
Living interstate we didn’t get to see her often.
Her life was busy and full. Her wit, humour and energy was hard to ignore. She was generous with her time and what she had. Karen was passionate and strong willed which kept her going and made her many friends.
I will not forget her valued support for my Dad over the years.
    Safe in God’s arms.
Karen you are now singing in God’s choir!

    1. Karen was married to my brother Jouke Douma (Jack) I only got to meet her once but she was my sister in law. Only a few weeks ago we were in contact. She asked me for information about the family. I did quite a research and sent it to her and also some foto’s. She was really happy with that. She was making a family book for her grandchildren. Only two days later she passed away. So sad. But how good it felt to be able to watch the ceremony. Wishing strength and piece to the (my) family.

  2. I am grateful for the years I knew Karen and that she could be a bonus grandmother to me. When she married Con (Opa Cor) she felt like family already and fitted right in. She made such an effort to get to know us and to love and care for us. She remembered my birthday and cared about my children too, even though there were so many great grandchildren to get to know. She always appreciated photos and updates from us. As someone who loves gardening too, I enjoyed and admired her garden the few times we got to visit. My memories of her were of a warm and kind woman whose smile brightened the room. I will miss her. Love from Adrianna Hall (nee Valk), Michael, Jonathan, Peter and Bethany.

  5. It was a pleasure to have known Karen especially through the Inverloch Garden Club. Our thoughts are with her family. May Karen rest in peace.

  6. Condolences to Karen’s family. Karen contributed to our U3A choir in many ways but particularly by digitising the individual parts of many songs so the choristers could learn their parts. So she has left a legacy with us too. To hear that her lungs had been donated was wonderful – you must all feel very proud of her.

  7. Dear Wendy, Jade, Kasey and family
What a wonderful service and tribute to Karen.
Now time to reflect on all your happy memories and times together to help you through your grief.
Wish I was there to hug you all but particularly you Wendy. You have been through so much and having to make decisions no-one wishes to make. You are always the strong one for others but be kind to yourself and allow yourself to grieve. Please know you are in my thoughts daily.
    Love Jenni xx

  9. Rosemary Heide, organiser of South Gippsland Mental Illness Carers Group will remember Karen as a happy and positive member of our group from its beginning as Schizophrenia Fellowship. Karen and Con generously opened their home in Inverloch for some of our meetings. Karen was a warm, cheerful, caring and lovely friend to us all. We will miss her and were very sad to hear of her sudden death.

    1. As Con’s daughter it has been
special for me to have Karen in my life over the past 12 years. Beautiful flowers. Love the touch of the handmade dog. The live stream didn’t work on my android….will watch later.
