We didn’t have a lot of time together, but we met at a vulnerable position we were both in in hospital two months ago. You reached out and stretched your kindness from across the ward and comforted me when I was feeling isolated. And from that love borne not out of seeking anything from each other, but out of wanting to console me, I saw how resplendently compassionate your spirit was. I will forever remember how generously you cared, how you touched my heart at our darkest hours together, and how rare and special a friendship like ours was.
Dear Maria, I am so grateful I had the chance to meet you, your beautiful family and to say goodbye.
Thank you for all you have been to me in this life. My deepest condolences to your family, and especially to your children Annette and Max who reached out to me to continue our friendship from beyond ward 8 West.

She was and remains a source of deep inspiration. She lived her life with absolute abundance, determination and with phenomenal compassion, you should be proud. I certainly will also miss her amazing, tasty cooking – she was the best. Thank you for setting up this virtual attendance to the ceremonies today so that your extended family can be with you in spirit.
My deepest condolences to Anna and Maxie and your families and to Joanne, Gerald and Dad. Maria was a force of nature, never one to back down when she thought something wasn’t right but loving to all. I’ll always cherish the memory of sitting on the beach at Dromana with Maria and her bringing out a bottle of her homemade iced tea – at the time it was the best thing I’d ever tasted and I’ve never been able to replicate it. Much like we’ll never replicate her. We are better for having had her in our lives and I am so thankful that she was able to spend her last days surrounded by family and friends. Love always, Liz
