After watching the service online, if you can leave a guest message to let the family know you have joined into the service, that would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Ben, Tam, Ella and Lucy,
Both my boys knew Max from CGS and I cannot imagine the sense of your loss and pain and heartbreak.
Max sounds like he was the best son and friend you could ask for.

Memories of Max with his beaming smile, clambering up the rickety back fence separating our back yards during the day of our music nights, busting to come over to be part of of the activities and in recent times being reunited with Rosie to continue his love of singing, will remain our beautiful memory of Max.
Love and thoughts to the Ben Tamara and girls during this time.
Love the Hilder family.
I will miss Max very much. He was always positive and had a wonderful sense of humour and was always encouraging me to get involved in things too. He was kind and generous and I will miss our discussions on every topic imaginable; he always had a new one each day. Our thoughts are with the McKenzie family.
I am so so sorry Tamara and Ben. What an amazing young man. Sending all of our love to you and the girls. My heat breaks for you all ❤️. Sophie, Ben and Olive xxx
What a beautiful service and what a privilege for us to see the incredibly special young man Max had grown into. We watched it with Red and many tears were shed – we have such fond memories of Max as a younger boy visiting our place, and Red at yours, and cubs. Thank you for an incredibly moving service which let us get to know older Max, and which touched our hearts deeply, in ways that I think will last a very long time. All our love to you.
A beautiful service that really highlighted and celebrated just what a special young man Max was. We so appreciated being able to join you via the livestream.

Max I didn’t know you but my parents knew yours. Your love for life, family, friends, people, technology and machinery are traits of someone who would’ve excelled in our industry. The future of aviation certainly won’t be the same without you.
“To most people the sky is the limit. But for people that love aviation the sky is home”…. Don’t have too much fun up there. I’ll be sure to give you a wave on my next flight X

I did not know your precious boy but I can tell from the ripple that he has left behind that he loved deeply and in return was loved deeply. As a mother of two CGS boys I cannot begin to fathom your grief or loss but you are in our thoughts and heart and we pray for you as you navigate the road ahead.
A beautiful tribute to a young person who loved life, the outdoors, friends and family – we will take away with us the thought “Max by name, Max by nature” and strive to “do a Max”. Thank-you to the celebrant for guiding such a sad funeral with sensitivity and wisdom – so grateful to be able to take part.
We are right beside you dear Tamara Ben Ella and Lucy.

Although I didn’t know max for as long as others, we became close quite quickly. I got to see him in his element on the water. There won’t be a session without thinking about him. Dear Tamara, Ben, Ella and Lucy,
firstly, I just want to offer my sincere condolences to you all. It was a beautiful service this morning. We lit a candle at home to pay tribute and to remember Max.
These words I’ve written are both with a heavy heart and also make me grateful knowing that I was very fortunate to have shared part of Max’s life. I taught Max PE and sport when he went through CGS Junior School and again last year when he was in Year 8. It was great renewing acquaintances with Max last year. He still had his big smile when he came to class and a terrific sense of humour which we all enjoyed. I remember sharing conversations and moments with Max on school camps and other school events. These memories will always be special to me. Max will be terribly missed and never forgotten.
Such a beautiful service. We are thinking of you Tam, Ben, Ella and Lucy. Your support on our CGS journey has meant so much. Love always, Stephen, Helen and Charlie x
Sending my condolences to Ben Tamara Ella & Lucy. I will miss Max’s great sense of humour & his political updates of the day. I would have to walk really fast with Max to keep up with him & his talking. He was always kind & caring & good fun to be around. Miss you Max

Despite being in the year above Max, I felt that I got to know him pretty well after many funny and interesting conversation during Tutor group. He truly threw himself into everything that he could, and his vibrancy for life is something that I have always admired and I will strive to be like. A very moving tribute to Max who achieved so much in his short life. He touched so many people in so many different ways, it is hard to believe that he was only 15.Thank you so much for allowing us to share in this celebration of his life. Our thoughts are with you.
Hello, My name is Charles, I was Max’s ‘north’ friend. The years we knew each other and I still know him and that will never stop. The bus we took together, the time of my life, the funny moment’s that we had on the way. one stands out to me most is how I fell off my scooter and Max just fell down laughing, To me it wasn’t funny at first but I realised after a couple minutes it was a hysterical moment, soon after that he stopped taking the bus and moved closer to school long. I felt lonely not having max’s company on public transport. as we got older we went in different directions, He was finding a great friend group. Max was more than a brother to me but he was something words can’t describe. I love you so much max, Rest in peace and ill see you when it’s my time to cross the water.
To Tam, Ben, Ella, and Lucy,
Memories of Minecraft, water bomb wars across the back fence and Max’s beaming smile will stay with us forever. Sending our love and hope that beautiful memories of a beautiful boy provide some comfort. You must be incredibly proud of such a wonderful son and brother.
Christine, Cam, Eliza, Penny, Luke and Angus
Dear Ben, Tamara, Ella and Lucy,

What an absolutely beautiful tribute to your beautiful boy, Max.
Tam, Ben, Ella and Lucy – you are in our hearts.
Our Ella will miss fun times spent with Max at your farm, on walks, at the movies and arguing about inter-school debating topics. An incredible young man and most excellent big brother and friend.
Love always, Ella, Bec, Brett and Joel xxxx
What a beautiful tribute to your amazing boy. Thank you for sharing it with us. We are so very sorry for your loss. Please know that over the past few weeks we have been thinking of you.
Max had one of those rare smiles that you may come across four or five times in life. It faced, or seemed to face, the whole external world and then concentrated on you with an irresistible prejudice in your favor. It understood you just as far as you wanted to be understood, believed in you as you would like to believe in yourself.
Max’s spirit warmed each and every person’s heart that he came across.
We are so happy that Max was our friend and part of our life. Raph and we are so much richer for it.
Dear Tamara, Ben, Lucy and Ella,
Sending love and condolences to you all as you farewell Max today. His charisma, energy and enthusiasm was contagious for all those around him. He was loved by all his friends and teachers. Thinking of you all at this difficult time.

That was a beautiful service for Max. It would have meant a lot to him.
We greatly appreciate being part of his rich and full life, especially Chloe. We miss him greatly. Our thoughts are with Ben, Tamara, Ella and Lucy and all of Max’s family and friends. With love, Chloe, Lena & Peter.
There are no words. He will forever mean so much to me and so many others. I will miss him and think of him for the rest of my life. We all love you Max. Chloe.
I’m an mlc year 12 kayaker who also gets the 158 to school every day. I remember the two little Camberwell boys who would rock up at the bus stop with their scooters completely oblivious to anyone else on the bus. I remember an older student on the bus getting fed up with them playing on that iPad pro on full volume with no headphones but once they were told they showed up with headphones the next day.
Max will be greatly missed on the water and has made such an impact on the mlc kayaking community, especially the year 10s.
Thank you for sharing this beautiful tribute to Max. We are holding you in our thoughts and hearts, and are so very sorry for your loss. Kate, Mark, Felix and Isaac

Dear Tam, Ben, Ella and Lucy,
We are so so sorry for you loss and our thoughts are with you. You should be so proud of Max and how kind, thoughtful and beautiful young man that he became.
He has inspired us to live life to the fullest and to make the most of every moment.
Rest In Peace.

Hello
I am Will and I am a friend of Max
I don’t have a memory of Max, in which he isn’t smiling from ear to ear. He was always a joy to be around, and had a knack for never being out of place, and making sure nobody else felt out of place. I was lucky enough to be in his class for the first time this year, and his personality shone, on zoom, but especially in person. Cracking jokes, participating in every classroom discussion, and making every member of the community that knew him, feel happier.
I know that every member of his family, and every one of his many friends, remembers him, and continues living life to the fullest, as Max would’ve wanted.
I knew of Max through Maureen and their wonderful relationship. I heard of his cooking successes, his Lego achievements and all that made him an amazing young man.
Thank you for sharing this tribute to your beautiful Max.
Go gently into the light Max.
Thanks for letting us be part of a beautiful celebration of Max, he will be missed so much. Our thoughts are very much with you. We wont ever forget his infectious smile and love of life. Luc, Juliet, Anouk & Henry
Dear Ben, Tamara, Ella and Lucy,
it’s with a heavy heart and much sorrow that I write these words. I had the privilege of teaching Max PE and sport at CGS Junior School from Year 4 onwards and also again last year in Year 8. I remember his input and energy he brought to school camps and productions and whilst playing sport. He was an entertaining boy with a big smile who was always keen to help out with packing up equipment or having a conversation. It was great renewing acquaintances with Max again in Middle & Senior School. His personality was infectious and he was integral part of my class. We will all miss him terribly. Love and sincere condolences to you all.
Two years ago, I was fortunate enough to introduce Max to the Latin language. I am absolutely certain that he immediately realised the derivation of his name from the Roman first name Maximus.
The Latin word ‘maximus’ translates as ‘the biggest, largest, and greatest’. I cannot think of apter words to describe his engagement with – and affect on – everyone and everything around him.
Dear Tam, Ben, Ella and Lucy
We share your tears and appreciation of Max’s beautiful life. Max, thank you for being a great inspiration for our son and many other young people in your community.
Mia and Binh Le (parents of Toan Le Year 7 – Kayak team)
To Max’s loving family, I learnt so much about Max and you in that beautiful celebration of a life lived as part an amazing family. He will be forever in your hearts and ours. Max by name and max by nature says it all. My heartfelt condolences. Diane Collins CGS Junior School
Dear Ben, Tam, Ellla and Lucy

Dearest Tamara and family,
What a beautiful tribute to Max. All the stories, the words of love and photos show what an inspiration Max was to others. I am so very sad for you all. It was so lovely to hear all about Max’s marvels in life.
Sending all my love.
love always, Danielle and family
Watching the funeral, I continued to think about the effect which Max had on everyone who he came into contact with. His smile, fantastic laugh and personality seemed to just stop time and make everyone content. Going to school without seeing him there will be a great challenge and the thought that I will never be able to hear that fantastic laugh again is devastating. Max will be dearly missed.
We’re devastated by Max’s death and shocked beyond words. We have such fond memories of Max at Kinder, in MacAdams Reserve and a primary school. The house in Stanley Street and the cubby will always be Max’s house. He will always be part of our family’s foundation memories. He truly did grab life with both hands and give it a good shake!
We came together as a family to be with you the best we could over the livestream. We laughed and cried with you, we are in awe of the incredible tribute you put together for Max in the most difficult circumstances imaginable. Ben and Tam, you are an incredible team and we love you and Ella and Lucy.
Such a beautiful tribute to your beautiful Max. We will always remember him fondly in our grade 4 class. So sorry for your loss. Sending you all our love & prayers xx
A beautiful farewell for your beautiful boy. A life so well lived, but ended far to soon. Max’s memory will always be in our hearts. Fly high Max. All our love. Andy, Craig, Angus, Georgie and Max
Thank you for the privilege of getting to know Max today.
So much joyous, adventurous life crammed into 16 years.
Thoughts with you, Ben & Tamara and all of your family.

Every time I think of Max I see that same smile and hear him say ‘Akela …’. Max’s smile combined energy, excitement, mischief, curiosity and an appetite to keep moving, find out more, play tricks, ask a question, offer to help, not stop. His passion and good nature were infectious, it encouraged us to lift just to keep up, and brings a smile to my face just when I think of it.
Max’s light continues to shine in love, joy and friendship. Thank you for the opportunity to share in such a precious time of reflection.
With my love and deepest sympathy,
Helen xxxxx
Dear Ben, Tamara, Ella and Lucy.

Dear Tamara, Ben, Ella & Lucy,
Thinking of you on this very sad day. I never had the honour of knowing Max personally, however I do remember him running up to me at school with a message from Raph. He struck me as joyous, full of energy and a wonderful friend. Thank you for sharing these wonderful memories of Max with the community, and I know they will be cherished forever.
What a beautiful tribute for a beautiful boy. So clearly loved by so many. Memories left will be engraved in hearts forever. Sending you all love, Lisa xx
Max was a bright light in the kayaking community, he brought a so much joy and dedication that truly made being a coach so rewarding. Where ever you were standing along the river you could always hear Max’s infectious laugh or see his cheeky smile. His constant enthusiasm was so contagious and his devotion to the sport was inspiring. He was an extraordinary boy and a role model for the boys, younger and older. The CGS kayaking team will miss him greatly. My thoughts are with you in this devastating time!
My deepest condolences.
I have worked for Maureen at Little Learners for the last few years and Max came up in conversation many a time. Although I didn’t know him I knew of him and it was obvious what a special child he was and how much joy and love he gave. In an email I received from her about a month ago she mentioned that Max had stayed overnight and how wonderful that was. ‘He is such a great kid and fun!’ she wrote. This service depicted that beautifully. I am so very, very sorry for you loss.
We are truly sorry to hear about your loss. Losing your son (brother) is not easy but we pray to God to give you the courage to bear this loss. Our most sincere condolences.
Dear Tam, Ben, Ella and Lucy,
Our hearts break for you all. Our deepest condolences for the loss of Max. It was a beautiful celebration of a beautiful boy.

Such a wonderful tribute to an adventurous, impressive and inspirational person. Our thoughts are with all your family. You have so many fantastic memories and are fortunate to have so many photos to relive these. You have reminded us how important it is to take photos. We will now be taking a whole lot more. Our youngest son Jacob speaks so fondly of Max and loved his involvement in the same house and Tutor Group of Macneil at CGS. Even though he is a Year 10 student Jacob felt that he knew Max. He certainly left an impression on all those he came in contact with.
Our sinerest condolences to the McKenzie family. May the Lord give you strenght to get through these sorrowful times

I am so sorry for your loss, that was a very special memorial for Max. As one of the kayaking coaches for Max he will always hold a very special place in my heart, his ability to bring positivity and energy across everyone at training will never be forgotten. Sending all my love out to your family during this time and will forever honour his spirit on the river.
Lots of love, Hannah
My thoughts and prayers are with you all today as you farewell your beautiful boy.
I did not know Max personally but I do remember his big, generous smile. I have heard so many terrific stories about Max over these last few weeks. He has left a lasting impact on so many.
I never knew Max on a personal level, but even so, his attitude was so infectious and his enthusiasm truly shined through. Whether it’s his readiness to throw himself in cadets, or speak out in debating or rotary, his impact could always be felt. Whenever I saw him, he carried his cheeky smile, no doubt positively impacting so many more around him, he will be dearly missed by the whole CGS community and undoubtably so many more communities.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all the McKenzie family, may we always remember and cherish the moments.
Oh Tam I am heartbroken for you and your lovely family on losing Max. What a wonderful celebration of his life you have shared today. It speaks volumes of the loving and lovely young man Max has become and of the loving family that was around him and let him blossom. I am so sad that this has happened. My thoughts and love are with you all as you move on through your days ahead. Go gently, live well and fully like your wonderful son Max. Much, much love, Gilli xx

We only met Max for a few, brief moments. It’s all it took to appreciate his energy, empathy, and curiosity, his wisdom beyond his years. He was and will remain a reflection of the sensitive, caring and beautiful people you all are.
Our deepest sympathies,
Yannick, Suzie, Charlotte and Alex Thoraval
A beautiful service and wonderful tribute to Max, thank you for giving us all the opportunity to say goodbye in this way.
I feel honoured to have known Max when he was in Junior School at CGS and I have many fond memories of him involved in both musical and dramatic rehearsals and performances.
I miss him and am so sorry his life has ended too soon.
I am the Interact CGS Liaison from The Rotary Club of Canterbury. Max always had a smile on his face at Interact meetings and actively contributed to any event . He made thoughtful and positive suggestions and was surrounded by his friends. I have been deeply moved by all his other achievements both inside and outside Camberwell Grammar School. His memory will be a blessing to his family and friends.
To Max’s family we extend our heartfelt sympathy on the loss of your very special boy.
While you don’t know us, we are Raph’s relatives, and we watched this beautiful tribute to Max.
What a wonderful, but far too short life he had, and he clearly lived it to the full.
Warmest wishes at this tragic time.
What a beautiful tribute to a truly beautiful boy. He was so lucky to have the wonderful family he had who gave him every opportunity to be the outstanding kid he was. We really liked the term – “to do a Max” and give something your all – what an inspiration he was. Our thoughts are with you Ben, Tam, Ella and Lucy. Thank you for inviting us all to be a part of this Celebration of Max’s wonderful life.
Dear Ben, Tam, Ella and Lucy,
It’s Nat, I have known Max since Yr 4. I loved kayaking with Max. I remember how happy we were after we won both our events at Nagambie earlier this year. I’ll think of him every-time I paddle at the yarra and will miss him forever.
What a beautiful, moving tribute to your remarkable boy. I’ll hold forever that sense of his infectious smile and zest for everyday. Flynn and I talked about that being our Max legacy. We’ll invoke it whenever we’re losing sight of what is most important. Our love and thoughts with you every day. Max’s candle is still burning bright here.
Dear Tam, Ben, Ella, Lucy and family,
our thoughts and love are with you. Max was an amazing young person. It was a beautiful service today with such beautiful tributes. Sending all our love and prayers to you.

What a beautiful service for a beautiful boy. To have such things said of a man at the end of a long life would be a wonderful thing. To have them said at the end of such a short one is extraordinary.
You have all lived life so fully with Max. Please try not to stop doing so now he is gone.
Love,

My deepest condolences during this extremely hard time. The service was beautiful and I hope you cherish every memory you shared with him. Sending all my love and support your way.
Max was one of the most passionate and driven people that I had the pleasure of knowing through drama at CGS. He was the kind of person who always knew exactly what to say to make someone laugh and he always gave everything he did 110%. Max was always smiling and when you talked to him you couldn’t help but smile too.
Max glowed on stage regardless of his role, and in the theatre, he let the thespian within him shine; he maintained a love for performing and it was that love that drew so many people to him. I will always remember Max as a cherished member of drama at Camberwell Grammar and a friend.
To Max’s Family.
My thoughts are with you on this sad day. Max was in my Science class in Year 8 and I will always remember him, he was unforgettable. His enthusiasm, interest and sheer zest for life is something I will never forget.
I will miss him and treasure the memories I have of him.
On the last day we were together at school, Max came into the Library and was browsing Taste Magazine. We started chatting about cooking, and he told me it was his sister’s birthday coming up and he was going to bake for her. I said I’d love a piece of anything he cooked, and he promised he’d bring me in a slice. That sums him up – loving, kind and generous. Thinking of you
Dear Tamara, Ben, Ella and Lucy,
Our hearts go out to you losing such a beautiful son. You are such a kind and caring family and we know Max will live on in your spirits forever. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful service.

Dear Ben, Tam, Ella and Lucy
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to join you at Max’s service and in this way, surround you with our love and support.
Though I never met Max, I remember hearing a lot about him when he was a toddler, when Ben and I worked together years ago. Through the beautiful photos and amazing words shared today, I have been privileged to get to know Max a bit better – a delightful young man who clearly cared deeply and lived life to the full. It is clear that he will be missed deeply, always loved, never forgotten.
I am truly sorry
Noush
Dear Tamara, Ben, Ella & Lucy,
You have been in my thoughts a lot over the past week. My son George felt very honored to be part of Max’s service. It was a beautiful service, and I got a sense of what a wonderful & happy young man Max was. My best wishes to you all, you will remain in my thoughts. Julie Perkins (George Trembath’s Mum)
I’ve known max since year four. Although we never were the closest of friends, his energy and charm was undeniable. I fondly remember playing the other half of Flash The Camel in the year five Ali Baba production. I still remember putting on the costume with him and getting ready to go on stage and he was sure to bring one hell of a show.
As I said, we never were the closest of friends, this year however, I was in his cadet unit and the attitude he brought to every session was positive and infectious. My thoughts and prayers are with Max’s friends and family.
Ben, Tamara, Ella and Lucy,
It is tribute to Max’s inclusive spirit that the Trinity kayakers, too, pay tribute to an extraordinary individual. Our hearts go out to you.
Trinity’s squad, saddened by the loss of a rival and a friend, will be remembering him on the river when we can paddle once again on the muddy waters of the Birrarung.
Dear Tamara, Ben, Ella and Lucy,
What a beautiful service to celebrate Max’s life and all the things he loved. All my thoughts and wishes are with you during this sad time,
Love Susan
I’ve never actually being close to Max, however, we’ve been in the same class for 2 years. We didn’t talked much, probably one sentence per week. However, I see him everyday, smiling and keeping everyone optimistic. I see his growth and smile which I, and many other people, will dearly cherish for sure.
Max works very hard in school, and is very energetic. He is inspiring no doubt…
How did I lose a friend I never had…
Dearest Tamara and family,
All the stories and tributes to Max were wonderful. Max has really left a such a positive and great influence and impact on so many. It was a privilege to watch the ceremony and see how much he accomplished and really learn about Max. (Max’s maths teacher was very humorous, I love what Max said to him about counting his gold)
I feel so sad that you have lost your boy.
Sending all my love.
Danielle Conquest and family xx
Sharing in your paradise, planting trees with you will be a forever treasured memory.
There is no doubt he was an extraordinary young man, with an enormous impact on those around him.
Know that Max and your family are in our hearts – you are surrounded by love.
Dear Tamara, Ben, Ella and Lucy. I am feeling for you all at this very sad time. Max was such a funny, kind and clever little boy when I knew him at FPS. He was always so very positive about anything he encountered. I really enjoyed our little chats together. He appears to have had a fantastic time in his youth and I’m so glad of this. Please know that you have so much love and support around you.
Thank you so much for letting me be part of this special time.
When I think of Max I remember our endless chats about all things tech and our debates about Apple products. I remember the amazing brownies he made and the times we sat down to draw in illustrator. I remember him teaching me all about Little Learners Love Literacy and him showing me videos of his ski runs. Running through play lines and practicing his accent. He is such an amazing kid, lighting up the room and buzzing with such an infectious positivity. It takes a special kind of person to touch the hearts of so many around him.
My deepest sympathy to all of you.
I used to do a bit of volunteer work at Junior School. I remember wrapping his beautiful Mother’s Day and Father’s Day gifts. He was always very polite with big smile.
Dear Ben, Tam, Ella and Lucy,
It has been a privilege to spend this time sharing memories, thoughts and feelings today. It has been a touching and very poignant service. We will miss Max in the Drama Department, his enthusiasm as an actor and in back stage roles was infectious – Mr Stocker
Dear Tamara, Ben, Ella & Lucy,
This is a most beautiful celebration of Max’s life.
Our thoughts and condolences.
All our love,

What a beautiful funeral. I didn’t ever meet Max, but by the end I felt as though I knew who he was really well. It sounds as though he will live on the hearts of many people.
My thoughts are very much with you Ben, Tamara, Ella and Lucy.
I’m a year 11 student and knew Max through kayaking, rotary and cadets. Max was always a joy to be with, and had a zest for life that shone on everyone he met. We trained and raced in a kayak together, and despite being a year 9 I was always amazed at his talent and work ethic. He will always be loved and missed. Best wishes to The McKenzie family and we know that he will always be missed.
Dear Ben, Tam, Ella and Lucy,
Sending you our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. We have lit a candle celebrating his amazing life.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all in this time of immense sorrow. Maureen spoke of Max often, every time, her face lighting up and her voice radiating pure love and joy. He sounded like a wonderful young man.

Even to those who didn’t know him personally, Max was a constant and wonderful presence at the school, contributing to school life in so many ways, whether it be in debating, drama or Rotary. He will be missed by the CGS community and our thoughts are with him.

My name is Ethan Huang and I’m in the same year as Max at school. We both started our journey at CGS in year 4, so I’ve known Max for a few years now. He has been in my class a few times throughout the years. Max, in my memories, has always been an optimistic and cheerful classmate, always brightening the room with his smile. My fondest moments with him are at year 6 camp when we were in the same cabin. At that time, I hadn’t gotten to know him very well, but during the days at camp, we closened our friendship and shared many laughs. He truly made camp a more enjoyable experience, with his constant radiation of happiness. It is my deepest regret that I didn’t get to know Max better. I am very sorry for your loss.
Dear Ben and family,
My heart breaks for you. Sincerest condolences for the passing of your Max all too soon.
Thinking of you today and sending my love for you all.
One of the most devastating moments for any family to go through. All our prayers and thoughts are with you. Max’s energy and enthusiasm will live on forever.
His contagious enthusiasm, cheekiness, generosity and humour will always be remembered.
Lots of love, strength and prayers for the McKenzie family.
Nous pensons très fort à vous.

I might have never been a personal friend of Max, but due to the number of things he did, be it Rotary or Model UN, I always saw his smile and his enthusiasm. Despite being in year 9, he was never scared to speak his mind and so made a huge impact on me, and so many people,
My thoughts and prayers are with you all and I feel honoured to be here today to farewell your beautiful boy Max. Maureen is a very dear colleague and friend of mine and I always love hearing about the grandchildren. My deepest sympathy and condolences and Max will never be forgotten.

My name is Jasper Lim,
I was a part of Max’s cadet section and used to walk to school with him. Max always had an energy about him and determination that I couldn’t compare to. When we did cadets he always brought smiles to our faces and was a great team player, but what I remember the most about him was his charisma. He empowered everyone around him and it was an honor to have him, always. Sometimes I doubt myself but it is to people like Max I know there is a way to keep going. To Max’s family, I offer my condolences and thank you for making Max who he was.
Dear Ben, Tamara, Lucy and Ella,

Hello,
I’m Dylan in year 9 the same as Max, me and max werent really close friends but I always was amazed how he always had a smile on his face and was probably the most enthusiastic person I had ever seen when it came to school and when he was around his friends. He was a person that was always making jokes and having discusions with his freinds making them laugh and always had a positive influencd on those around him. I’m sure Max’s family, freinds, teahers and fellow pupils will miss him dearly but also remember him for the great person he was. I do not have the words to describe how sorry I am for your loss.
My heart weeps for you all today.
I hope you know how many people you haven’t met are wishing you strength.
We are with you all in spirit.
Love, Belinda

Max will be sorely missed by his INCC Yarra Paddler buddies. His happy, vibrant approach to life was a joy to all who came into contact with him. There are lots of happy memories to recall of his antics on the river.
Our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.
He was always so nice and kind to everyone and always was carrying a positive attitude. But I mostly knew him as the guy that would participate in every aspect of the school. He was a smart, funny and all around great guy to be with.
As a community we are here to support you whenever you need it.
Hi
My name is Aden and I’m in year 11 at CGS, my locker was 3 lockers away from Max’s I never spoke to him personally but every time I saw him he had a smile on his face and had a spring in his step. He always would seem happy and would go out of his way to help someone. I hope you find comfort in this message just knowing that I never spoke to Max and he had a positive impact on me. I’m so sorry for your loss.

Nick Appleyard

Despite being in the year above Max, I felt that I got to know him pretty well after many funny and interesting conversation during Tutor group. He truly threw himself into everything that he could, and his vibrancy for life is something that I have always admired and I will strive to be like. Without Max’s presence, tutor group will never feel the same. He will be greatly missed.

Dear Ben, Tamara, Ella and Lucy
Max had one of those rare smiles that you may come across four or five times in life. It faced, or seemed to face, the whole external world and then concentrated on you with an irresistible prejudice in your favor. It understood you just as far as you wanted to be understood, believed in you as you would like to believe in yourself.
Max’s spirit warmed each and every person’s heart that he came across.
We are so happy that Max was our friend and part of our life. Raph and we are so much richer for it.
Love always,
David, Kate, Raph and Camille Champion xo

There are no words. He will forever mean so much to me and so many others. I will miss him and think of him for the rest of my life. We all love you Max. Chloe.
Dear Tam, Ben, Lucy and Ella,
I’m an mlc year 12 kayaker who also gets the 158 to school every day.
Grace

Will
I knew of Max through Maureen and their wonderful relationship. I heard of his cooking successes, his Lego achievements and all that made him an amazing young man.
Thank you for sharing this tribute to your beautiful Max.
Go gently into the light Max.
Ben, Tams, Ella & Lucy,
Thanks for letting us be part of a beautiful celebration of Max, he will be missed so much.
Nick Appleyard
Dear McKenzie family,
Two years ago, I was fortunate enough to introduce Max to the Latin language.
Samuel Gough
Dear Tam, Ben, Ella and Lucy

Sending all my love.

Dearest McKenzie family, Ben, Tam, Ella and Lucy,

Every time I think of Max I see that same smile and hear him say ‘Akela …’. Max’s smile combined energy, excitement, mischief, curiosity and an appetite to keep moving, find out more, play tricks, ask a question, offer to help, not stop. His passion and good nature were infectious, it encouraged us to lift just to keep up, and brings a smile to my face just when I think of it.
Dear Tamara, Ben, Ella and Lucy,
Max’s light continues to shine in love, joy and friendship. Thank you for the opportunity to share in such a precious time of reflection.

Dear Ben, Tamara, Ella and Lucy,
Max was a bright light in the kayaking community, he brought a so much joy and dedication that truly made being a coach so rewarding. Where ever you were standing along the river you could always hear Max’s infectious laugh or see his cheeky smile. His constant enthusiasm was so contagious and his devotion to the sport was inspiring. He was an extraordinary boy and a role model for the boys, younger and older.
Dear Tamara, Ben, Ella and Lucy,

He certainly left an impression on all those he came in contact with.

Whenever I saw him, he carried his cheeky smile, no doubt positively impacting so many more around him, he will be dearly missed by the whole CGS community and undoubtably so many more communities.

Thoughts and prayers,
Nicholas Sarlos-Welsh

On the last day we were together at school, Max came into the Library and was browsing Taste Magazine. We started chatting about cooking, and he told me it was his sister’s birthday coming up and he was going to bake for her. I said I’d love a piece of anything he cooked, and he promised he’d bring me in a slice. That sums him up – loving, kind and generous. Thinking of you

We share your tears, your grief and your heartbreak.
Dearest Ben, Tam, Ella & Lucy,
Thinking of you with love.

Dear Ben, Tamara, Ella and Lucy,
I am so very sorry for your loss. Today’s service was a beautiful tribute to your beloved Max.

He is an inspiration to us all.
What a remarkable young man.

Dear Tam, Ben, Ella, and Lucy
My deepest sympathy to all of you.
I used to do a bit of volunteer work at Junior School. I remember wrapping his beautiful Mother’s Day and Father’s Day gifts. He was always very polite with big smile.

Dear Tam, Ben, Ella and Lucy

Hello,
I’m Dylan in year 9 the same as Max, me and max werent really close friends but I always was amazed how he always had a smile on his face and was probably the most enthusiastic person I had ever seen when it came to school and when he was around his friends. He was a person that was always making jokes and having discusions with his freinds making them laugh and always had a positive influencd on those around him. I’m sure Max’s family, freinds, teahers and fellow pupils will miss him dearly but also remember him for the great person he was. I do not have the words to describe how sorry I am for your loss.
yours Sincerely,
Dylan
