  9. Dear Gwen, Kerry, Allan & Families, it is with such sadness and happiness that we joined you this afternoon to farewell Mervyn…..sadness that we could not be with you in person, but Happiness for the privilege of having known Mervyn and yourself, Gwen. We didn’t see you that often, but I have such great memories of the times that we did meet. I especially think of the times that we met when visiting Ted (before he died) and again at the later family gatherings. Never before have I been so affected by a person that I seldom saw….
He was certainly larger than life, in so many ways., especially listening to the many tributes today.
My thoughts go out to you when I think of the huge loss in your lives, but also the wonderful and many memories that you will have….may you be sustained by your memories and knowledge that he will be missed by many. Thanks for your preparation of sharing your memories and tributes with us. With loving thoughts

  10. (Aunty) Gwen, Kerry, Allan and all other family & Friends.
(Uncle) Merv will always be apart of our lives.
There are so many important and memorable moments imprinted in our memories.
The memories of all the gatherings at Kieth Grove, Bingo nights, Xmas’s, the back fridge and all those all important Moulamien annual Fishing trips from my younger years will stay with me forever.
Merv’s presence will be missed but will be remembered.
So sorry we could not be there today with you.
    RIP Merv

Donna and I wish to pass on our deepest condolences on the passing of this great man. We have known him and your family for over 40 yrs. He was always the person that we all looked up to and respected. A true gentleman and as Pete Dacy said a LEGEND. He always spent plenty of time talking to us youngies and giving us plenty of stories. He will be sadly missed by us. RIP MERV.

  12. A great tribute to a lovely man! Will miss your smile from across the street! Rest in peace xx Jon, Kris, Adam and Brandon xxxx

  13. Farewell Mr Pickering. Our love and thoughts are with you Mrs Pickering, Al, Kerry and families. Amongst our memories of Merv is one in particular, a very jolly wine bottling afternoon in the backyard. We will always remember his big smile, kindness and the Pickering hospitality.
With love, Ken and Caroline Small.

  14. To Gwen and family, please accept our deepest condolences on your great loss. It is such a pity that the current restrictions prevent so many of us from attending his actual funeral. Merve was a larger than life character and a great inspiration to many junior members of Victoria Police. He was a great President of the Unanimity Club and a hard act to follow. He will be long remembered. So mote it be. be.

  15. To Gwen and family, our sincere condolences on the passing of Merv. I had the privilege of serving with him at Nunawading Crime Car Squad, he was a great bloke and a great boss. Kindest regards, Geoff and Carol Lugg

  16. Aunty Gwen, Al, Kez and families, every time I throw my tea towel over my shoulder, I think of Uncle Merv. He was more than an Uncle, he helped Darren and I every time we got in to a scrape without judgement or criticism. He would always greet us with a smile and a hug and he will be sorely missed. Big Merv and Little Merv are reunited on the riverbank talking bullshit with a beer in hand. Lots of love to all and we will see you soon.
Barb, Ann, Darren, Grace, Emilly & Michael

  17. Dear Gwen and family
Harry and I were very sad to hear that Merv had passed away. What a wonderful husband, father, pop and friend to many. I cherish my 15 years as a Director with Merv on Police Credit. He was a true leader and mentor to many. If there was ever a problem you could rely on Mervs experience and level head to get you through. The family I know are very proud of Mervs achievements.
We would have liked to be with the family today to honour Mervs life but know we are thinking of you in this sad time.
Very kind regards Chris and H x

  18. Our thoughts are with you Gwen Allan Kerry and families. Treasured memories of Keith Grove and our times together. Our love Marj Lynda Wendy Andrew and Jeffrey Cook and families

  19. I would just like to say I worked under “Big Merv” as a sergeant at Nunawading CCS for about 10 years until I suffered a severe breakdown in 1982, sadly I was unable to continue with the squad, and was retired medically unfit in 1984! I had the utmost respect and admiration for Merv. in his position as O/c. the squad and am aware of his outstanding humanitarian capacities. Merv. put up with me and I appreciate him very, very much. I could go on and on with more comments, but please excuse me as my wife and I have, during this service, been informed that our eldest grandson has been killed in a car crash in east Gippsland. Our love goes out to Gwen and the entire family. xxxx Bruce A Fisher former Sergt. 13260.

  20. Gwen & Family. A lovely service, just so sad that so few could attend. From myself & the boys from South Melbourne who I have been in contact with we thank you for the wisdom and the laughs. So Mote it Be.

  25. Dear Gwen, Al, Kerry & Family.

I remember so many funny times I was fortunate enough to have spent with Mr P. Fishing, rabbiting, getting puled over by the Police because Mr P had his arm out the window. He just seemed to know everyone, wherever you went. I remember fishing with him at Westernport it was about 40 deg and on the way home he just happened to know the guy who owned the local bottle shop, went to Mornington pier and he just happened to know the Captain of a Scallop trawler, so Mrs P cooked scallops for the next 3 days down at Somers.

I consider myself lucky to have known Mr P.

    My thoughts are with you.

My thoughts are with you all
