  1. I only knew Michael through his art on Instagram, Incube8r and Space2b, coupled with many short exchanges on Instagram about what he was currently working on. What I learned about him today was the other side of his life, which surprisingly also paralleled mine – I too started my career as a librarian. Thank you, Darryn, for helping me know your Mikey better, despite it being such a sad occasion. I loved his recent artworks – expanding in new and exciting directions, even working with vodka and coffee as his mediums! Such a creative soul. My heartfelt condolences to you, Darryn, and to Michael’s family. A life cut way too short. I will miss you, Michael, my @thatsnotfor Instagram friend.

  2. I first met in Michael in 1997 and we immediately became firm friends. It is hard to believe that 28 years have passed since those heady days of dinners and celebrations and fun and frivolity as well as an enduring friendship and everything that brings. I am very sad but honoured to have known Michael and worked closely with him and celebrated so many important milestones with him too. I will always remember you Michael your kindness and your calm patient presence as well as your flamboyance and love of life. Thoughts to his partner Darryn, his friend and companion of many years Michael Murray, his mother Trudi, brother Peter, and nieces Annika and Zara at this deeply saddening time.

  3. My prayers and heartfelt thoughts are sent to Darryn and Michael’s family at this time of great loss and sorrow.
I worked with Michael for nine years at CEM/MACS and enjoyed his talented and gifted collegial support, wicked sense of humour, sensitivity and kindness and most of all his friendship.
Let perpetual light shine upon him and may he rest in peace.

  4. God bless you Michael. Thank you for your kindness and all of your gifts.
My deepest sympathy to Darryn, his family, friends and everyone in his community.

  5. Dear Darryn, Peter, Trudie and family,
My sincere condolences at this time of losing Michael to this world too early.
I met Michael when I taught at Marian College 1993 – 1995 and were in contact for many, many years. (I have a stunning coffee table book on ‘shoes’ gifted to me one birthday).
Thank you for your invitation to join in your wonderful and inclusive celebration of Michael which captured all of his special and amazing qualities. His wit, humour, creativity, style, cheeky candor, capacity for friendship, his faith and spirituality have been celebrated wholly today.
May Michael remain near through the many memories shared now and onwards.
    Sincerely
    Anita Mueller (nee Buhagiar)

My thoughts and prayers are with Michael’s family and friends.

  8. The world has lost one of the most caring and amazing people who ever drew breath;
safe journey my friend, God’s Speed.
I will miss you dearly xxxx

  9. We are so blessed to have met you and worked with you Michael.

You were one in a million!
Love Grace and your St. Peter’s family xx

  10. Oh Mikey. Words cannot express the bright spark you were in a world sometimes so dull. My heart breaks for Darryn and your family, friends and colleagues. I will miss our coffee catch ups in Prahran and our regular online chats. May you rest in peace and thankyou for the joy and happiness you brought to so many in your short time on this earth ♥

  11. The news that Michael had left us was such a shock. I spent time hanging out with Mikey in the early 2010s, and his cheeky humour and warmth always made him good company. As I watch the service online I am looking at the pastel drawing he gave me as a present one birthday. It’s immensely pleasing that his huge talent was enjoyed by a wider audience in recent years. My thoughts are with Darryn, the family and all who loved him.

  12. Michael, I worked with you briefly but knew you quickly thanks to your openness and curiosity in others. Your creativity, kindness and humour were evident immediately.
Michael would tell me about ‘Triple R’ night at home, when he would make Rendang, Rice and Roti for dinner with Darryn. Darryn, the way Michael spoke of you was lovely and my thoughts are with you and all of Michael’s family and many loved ones.

  13. Darryn, at such a sad time, Michael would have been so proud of you holding it together to share such beautiful memories you both had together.

    ❤️❤️

  14. My heartfelt sympathy and love to your dear partner and family. Michael was a talented, creative, funny and kind human – his gifts on this earth superseded those of others. I am extremely fortunate to have witnessed Michael’s talent and gift for storytelling and creativity firsthand. He was a treasure, a gift and a very special human. May you find comfort in the cherished memories you all hold of Michael. Shauna.

  15. Mikey is with you always, in each and every colour of our magical world. Which is now a little less for the loss of Mikey. Love to you my friend, G xxxx

  16. So sorry I can’t be there in person. Thoughts are with you Darryn. As I have said previously the world is a lesser place for Michael’s passing.

  17. I’m still in disbelief that we are farewelling Michael today. He and his family lived just down the street from me and we grew up together in the same primary school and high school. I will greatly miss his amazing creativity, wicked humour, and the love of life that he brought to the world. My sincerest commiserations to Darryn and Michael’s family, my heart goes out to you all.

  18. Such a sad loss for Darryn and for Michael’s family. I will miss him sharing his creative works, which were so colourful and full of life, much like he was. RIP Michael xx

  19. The world is a sadder place without Michael. I will treasure the memories of Team Beard at Fun Runs and of course the marvellous art exhibitions I was able to see. Each time I look at the four pieces that hang proudly on our wall I will think of you. Love to Darryn and the family XoXo

  20. A great man whose life has been cut short far too soon. Michael made such an impact on my life in such a positive way!

Loving thoughts to Darryn, Trudy, Peter and your girls at this very sad time.

  21. What a joy it was to see Mikey’s latest artworks being dropped of for the annual Men on Men Art Comp.
And what could’ve been sweeter than how proud he was when Darryn entered his first work – and it sold before Mikeys!
I’m fortunate enough to have two works in my home, one by Mikey himself, the other where Mikey was the muse for the award winning image by Steve Scalone (another beautiful man gone too soon). Keep on creating wherever you are Mikey.

  22. Michael was always so kind, creative, and funny. He was extremely kind to me when I worked at CEM and I was always blown away by how amazing his artwork was. He was extremely talented.

I’m very sad to hear he has passed and heaven has definitely got one very special angel there now.

I’d like to send love and blessings to Michael’s family and loved ones, he was an extremely special man and will be missed by so many.
