Please can you add this following comment to Nick Mayhew’s page for me. I have only just learned of his passing: So sorry to hear you have passed away, Nick. You always seemed to bring me peace when I was with you; with your easy charm, you were always so kind, calm and relaxed – and funny! Have fun in the hereafter, Nick, you will always be with me. Colin Bulbrook, London. 26.3.22
RIP Nick – 6.9.21

Best Santa’s helper anyone could’ve wished for on the back of a fire truck, through sweltering heat, thunderstorms and fire callouts. You knew Nick had your back in life threatening situations, fires and forgotten anniversaries. Many smokes, jokes and tears shared on the fireground.Committed dependable and humble. You have left a Void at Tylden Brigade.
Cheers Nick & thanks
Farewell Nick, it was a life well lived. We will miss you and always remember you. Thank you Moira, Nat and Pete for such wonderful eulogies. It was a beautiful service paying tribute to Nick. It evoked both tears and laughter. Our condolences to Moira and all of Nick’s family and friends.
A beautiful beautiful service. Nick was my cousin and we’d lost touch many years ago. Due to the power of Facebook I’d recently found Nat and was looking forward to catching up with Nick – I’m so sad it will never happen, although the service today brought back many memories of us as children. I’m currently in Greece and will have an Ouzo (or two) in his honour ‘Yammas Nick’!! Love to you Nat, Moira & Tracey xx
We were lucky to have Nick as part of our family and got to know him even better when he cared for our Nanna at Ray M Begg. We will always remember him and his kind and caring nature.

Nick, you were the Santa’s helper on the back of the fire truck. We endured sweltering heat ,thunderstorms ,fire callouts and many nonPC jokes. You knew he had your back in life threatening situations, dependable, committed and humble.Tylden brigade is a better place having had you there. There is a Void that will be hard to fill. Thanks Nick
Thank you all for your lovely messages and for taking the time to be part of Nick’s farewell – wherever you are in the world. This is such a tough day, but even though we couldn’t actually be there we felt that we were part of a most beautiful and heartfelt celebration of a life well lived.
We simply could not be prouder of my little brother and his love of Moira, family and friends, also his dedication and service to the CFA, RM Begg and local community. It is heartening to know so many others feel the same…
Nick you are truly missed you were always the calm in our hectic working day, it was a pleasure to watch you work your magic with distressed residents, it was a joy watching you holding an elderly persons hand and talk them through there anxiety, your natural empathetic trait was beautiful.
You are greatly missed thankyou for always listening.
I’ve worked with Nick for many years and on the day he passed away. It was truly a shock when I heard the news.
He was much loved by the residents he cared for and respected by all who worked with him. Such a kind soul. Nick was so kind to everyone at RMBegg, every day. He has spoken fondly of his partner Moira and his family in the UK, particularly when he worried for them during the covid-19 pandemic and was looking forward to seeing them again. My condolences to Moira and all of Nick’s family
A beautiful service and celebration of Nick’s life. My deepest sympathy to Moria and Nick’s family and friends at this sad time. He will be dearly missed by all at RM Begg.
I wish so much that I had known Nick better, I feel his values were amazing.

And on behalf of Kirsten, Craig, Tanzi, Angus and Yvon (in the UK)
Nick’s sudden passing has sent shockwaves through RM Begg- the loss of a highly valued, cheery and ever calm colleague and carer has been keenly felt. I worked with Nick for over 7 years and no matter how hectic a shift was, Nick was never in all that time flustered- not even sure he stopped smiling! Vale Nick, and heartfelt condolences to Moira and families.
I had the pleasure of working with Nick at RM Begg. He was always fun to work with. He was a fun, gentle, caring man who loved a laugh. He definitely had a way with the residents. He could always win them around. He will be dearly missed by all the staff and residents. Condolences to Moira and family. Remember all of the good times shared. RIP Nick taken too soon.
A lovely tribute to a wonderful kind man. I worked with Nick at R.M.Begg and enjoyed his company. He was well liked and respected by all the staff and Residents. He will be sadly missed. Condolences to Moria and Nick’s family in English.
Had the pleasure of getting to know Nick when he worked in South Melbourne and spent many a lunch time testing his knowledge with the daily quiz where he always amazed us.

Funny, kind, intelligent, giving, patient, strong, stoic, considerate, wise, clumsy, supportive, a good friend and an amazing person – just some of the words to describe Nick when I think of him. I’m so grateful and thankful that Nick was a major part of my life and he’ll always be in my heart and thoughts. Beautiful and emotive eulogies Moira, Nat and Pete – so many happy memories and stories. Sincere condolences and sympathy to family, friends, fellow CFA volunteers and co-workers. Nick…a life well lived. x
Nick – a dear friend who we met in Newham over 30-years ago and back then were our closest neighbour and friend. You were part of our family. As years and lives brought distance between us we always made the effort to catch up in Woodend or Melbourne. We were blessed to have known you and you’ll stay our hearts always – Kathleen, Thomas, Eryn, Jade and Leah Nolan.
That was such a beautiful service. Nick was a very special man, funny, caring and kind and it was a pleasure to listen to everyone’s memories of their time with Nick.
Nick was an amazing man, he made such an incredibly positive impact on so many peoples lives. He was and will continue to be so loved by everyone who knew him and he’ll be so greatly missed.
Uncle Nick, although we only met a handful of times, you always made me feel like family. I will always think of you grooving on the dance floor at Dave and Frans wedding.
Sending all the love to Moira, your dear friends and your amazing family.
Nick, I kept thinking that we would catch up again “soon”, that there was no hurry; ironically, our paths crossed too infrequently, and yet regularly at some key stages in our lives; the Lycee, WoodEnd, Brixton.
For the last couple of years, yours was the only Christmas card I received. No more. Rest in Peace.
Nick was such a great guy: always friendly, funny and knowledgeable. We shared a love of punk music. My thoughts are with his family. I hadn’t seen a lot of Nick over recent years but the memories and his gentle voice will stay with me forever.
I didn’t know Nick that well. But we always greeted each other in passing in the corridor at RM Begg. Nick was always cheerful & friendly & I am saddened that he is gone too soon. My thoughts are with Moira & Nick’s family & friends.
I had the pleasure of working with Nick for many years . Nick was a friendly and caring chap . Heartfelt condolences to Nicks family and friends . Gone too soon . RIP Nick
I had the pleasure of working with Nick over the past 2 and a half years, I’m very grateful of that. He taught me the ropes of the job and was always so kind and loving to everyone that crossed his path!
We also shared in common that his beautiful wife Moira teaches at the school I grew up at.
My deepest condolences to Moira and family.
Much love Laura xx
I had the pleasure working with Nick a few times, Nick your smile just would light up the room Such a wonderful caring man You are sadly missed by all of us at work, until we meet again RIP
Nick was my unofficially adopted son after his parents died when he was a young man and he spent many happy hours with us in London and Christmases at our primitive thatched cottage in the Suffolk countryside.
I was sorry to see him go to Australia but glad that he went to a land where he was happy in his tropical garden and among his many new friends.
I am sorry we can’t be with you this afternoon but thank you for looking after Nick at the end.
Barbara Jeffery
I had the pleasure of working with Nick, and the shock of his departing is still very apparent to everyone of his work mates.
A gentle giant, so calm, respectful, and intuitive, he was loved and trusted by all the residents he assisted over the years.
Gone too soon.
Condolences to Moira and all of Nick’s family and friends.
Dawn and Ian Faircloth.
Nick was a very dear friend to both of us for over 40 years and we’ll miss him greatly and never forget him. Our thoughts are with his family and Moira and all those who loved him of whom there were many…
